Heinz Field Management Traffic and Access Reminder

<b>PITTSBURGH- </b> The Steelers and Heinz Field management remind fans attending the Steelers' 2004 season home opener against the Oakland Raiders about some traffic and access matters. <br><br> Kickoff for Sunday's contest is 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to Heinz Field. There will be security measures implemented at the gates.

Contrary to some recent media reports, tailgating is permitted at Steelers games in the pre-sold parking spaces in the parking areas immediately surrounding the stadium, according to Heinz Field management.

The Port Authority will route most buses to the game from Heinz Field via the Clemente Bridge, providing convenient shuttle service. The Fort Pitt and Squirrel Hill Tunnels are open inbound and outbound for Downtown parking and access to Heinz Field. Fans without pre-sold parking should utilize parking areas in Downtown, Station Square or one of the Port Authority's Park and Ride Lots. The Gateway Clipper Fleet Steelers shuttles will be operating.

From Downtown parking, fans can access Heinz Field via sidewalks on the Clemente Bridge and the Ft. Duquesne Bridge.

Due to the recent rainstorms, the Mon Wharf parking area may or may not be open. Please listen to local radio and TV reports for updates.

Convenient Downtown parking is also located along Stanwix Street (at the Blatner-Brunner Building) and the PPG Building as well as at Parking Authority Garages. Cost is $5. he Mon Wharf with access from Fort Pitt Boulevard at Wood Street are open

North Shore Drive will be limited to incoming traffic prior to the game. Art Rooney Avenue, which is located along Heinz Field's east side, is closed to vehicular traffic on gameday. Additionally, General Robinson Street, which runs east to west on the eastside of the stadium between Lots G1 and G2, is one-way in (westbound) before the game and one way out (eastbound) after the game between Martindale and Art Rooney Avenue.

After the game, the police will operate Allegheny Avenue northbound only, from Reedsdale Street to Ridge Avenue, with the right lane to the Ft. Duquesne Bridge only. Also, the right lane of General Robinson Street East Bound, from Mazeroski Way to Federal Street, will be for buses only. After the game, the Clemente Bridge will be closed to all vehicles with alternate routes via the Fort Duquesneand Seventh Street bridges.

Reserved parking lots around the stadium open at 8 a.m. for Steelers game parkers.

Fans are also reminded of the following stadium policies:

* Coolers, bags, backpacks and large purses (larger than 8½ by 11) will be prohibited. Small purses, fanny packs, small camera cases and binocular cases and diaper bags will be permitted, however, all bags are subject to inspection. All bags that do not pass security must be returned to vehicles. In addition, Thermoses will not be permitted in the stadium.
