Steelers Make Moves, Player Update

FB J.T. Wall could be signed to the Steelers' active roster with Dan Kreider questionable. Wall was re-signed to their practice squad Tuesday.

QB Mike Quinn, who has been on the practice squad since the third game of the season, was released Tuesday to make room for FB J.T. Wall.

QB Ben Roethlisberger, on pace to break two of Dan Marino's 21-year-old rookie passing records, is setting an unofficial record off the field as well. Customers have snapped up his NFL jerseys in Pittsburgh to the point that few can be found on the racks in retail stores around town.

WR Hines Ward is on pace to catch 100 passes for the second time in three seasons. He has 51 at the halfway point. Ward has surpassed the Steelers' previous record of 85 receptions in each of the past three seasons.

WR Plaxico Burress is on pace to have his fewest catches since his rookie season, when he had only 22. Burress has 24 receptions, but his 20.4-yard average leads the NFL and would be the highest of his career by more than three yards.

TE Jay Riemersma caught his first touchdown pass Sunday since Sept. 7, 2003 and only his second in the past three seasons, including 2002 in Buffalo, when he had none.

LB James Farrior leads the team with 59 tackles, with three forced fumbles, three fumbles recovered and is tied for second with two interceptions and tied for third with three sacks.

CB Deshea Townsend leads the team with 10 passes defensed. Several players are tied for second with half that many. Townsend also has three sacks and leads the team with three interceptions.

QB Tommy Maddox did not play on Sunday, but he has supplanted Brian St. Pierre as the backup to Ben Roethlisberger.

CB Chad Scott again is out this week with a quad tendon tear and has about three weeks left before he can resume playing.

FB Dan Kreider, the blocking fullback, is questionable with a hip flexor that prompted him to leave the game against the Eagles in the third quarter.

RB Willie Parker, who played in his first game last week and had three carries for 14 yards, will play on third downs if Verron Haynes cannot go.

RB Jerome Bettis, who ran for 149 yards against Philadelphia, will replaced Duce Staley again if Staley's hamstring keeps him out Sunday. However, he too is on the injury list as probable with a calf problem.

RB Verron Haynes, who rushed for 51 yards and caught two passes for another 44 in the Steelers' 27-3 victory over the Eagles, is doubtful with turf toe.

RB Duce Staley, who missed last Sunday's game against Philadelphia with a hamstring injury, again is listed as questionable this week with the injury.
