Flu strikes Steelers

PITTSBURGH - One day after having his entire 53-man roster participate in a practice for the first time this season, Steelers' head coach Bill Cowher was missing two players again on Wednesday.

Linebackers Joey Porter and Kendrell Bell were not at the team's training facility Wednesday because of the flu. Both are expected to return Thursday, the team's final full practice day before its playoff game Saturday at Heinz Field against the Jets.

"Hopefully it's just a 24-hour thing," said Cowher. "We didn't want to take any chances by having them around the other guys. Hopefully they'll both be back (Thursday)."

Apparently, the Steelers weren't the only team to have players suffering from the flu. In New York, Jets quarterback Chad Pennington missed practice Thursday with the same illness.

"Do you have any insight on it?" Cowher asked an out of town reporter who asked him about it. "I should be asking you. I don't know anything about it. I'm just worried about our guys."
