Super Bowl Diary: Day Four

The work is winding down and it's time to get out on the streets and see what all the hubbub's about.

DETROIT – The kid wrecked into us just before we reached our hotel to call it a night.

"Seahawks! Seahawks!" the kid shouted.

Maybe he wasn't a kid. Maybe he was a 20-something with a baby face and a slight build. He wore Darrell Jackson's jersey and was looking for someone, anyone to agree with him.

"The Seahawks are going to kick butt!" he yelled.

I asked him if he was getting much support in his quest.

"No," he said, his voice and attitude downshifting back to reality. "Hardly nothin' at all."

It is a Pittsburgh Steelers town out there. The bars are packed with back and gold.

We ventured into the section known as Hockey Town, and Friday night was really the first night of the fan parade. Everyone tromped from bar to bar like they were at some type of southern tourist destination. The wintry weather was out of mind, only the ice sculptures gave Detroit away.

The wintry weather is coming for real today. The storm is scheduled for 2 p.m. By 6 p.m., they're telling us five inches of snow will be on the ground. I don't suspect there'll be more than the same two, three, four Seahawks fans on the streets tonight. Greektown is the destination. I suspect the song will remain the same.
