Steelers ready to bring back Haynes

Verron Haynes has tested the market and found that nobody wants him as a feature back.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are close to re-signing third-down back/backup fullback Verron Haynes, a deal that could be completed early this morning.

Haynes, a fifth-round pick in 2002 who earned $659,520 last season, wanted to test his value on the free-agent market in an effort to get more carries, but has found little interest among teams who would want him in a more featured role.

Thus, given his options, he'd rather return to the Steelers, where he would continue as third down back behind Willie Parker and Duce Staley.

Haynes had 274 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 74 carries and also caught 11 passes for 113 yards last season.
