Yet another member of the Super Bowl champion Steelers is returning as the team re-signed veteran running back Verron Haynes to a two-year, $1.6-million contract.
The 27-year-old Haynes has served as the Steelers' backup fullback and third-down back the past four seasons, gaining 660 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 159 attempts. Haynes also has 39 receptions for 322 yards and two touchdowns. He is also considered the team's best blocking running back.
Haynes is the seventh player to re-sign with the Steelers, joining linebacker Clint Kriewaldt, wide receiver Lee Mays, offensive tackle Barrett Brooks, tight end Jerame Tuman, defensive end Brett Keisel and quarterback Charlie Batch.
The Steelers have lost three unrestricted free agents, wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, free safety Chris Hope and defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen.
