City celebrates Hall of Famers

Thousands gathered at Heinz Field Saturday to honor the Steelers' Hall of Fame members.

Just under 10,000 people showed up for a celebration of the Steelers Hall of Famer members Saturday at Heinz Field Saturday.

SuperCelebration Hall of Fame Day, which was organized by Lynn Swann, featured Ernie Stautner, Mel Blount, Dan Rooney, Joe Greene, Franco Harris, John Stallworth, Bill Dudley, Jack Ham, Chuck Noll and Swann.

The event was billed as the first reunion of former Steelers Hall of Fame inductees, but it was more like a pep rally for the four Super Bowl teams, of which Swann, Blount, Greene, Stallworth, Ham, Noll and Rooney were involved with. Other Steelers Hall of Famers from those teams include Jack Lambert, Terry Bradshaw and Mike Webster.

Stallworth is the latest former Steelers star to make it to the Hall of Fame. He will be inducted later this month during ceremonies in Canton, Ohio.

The Steelers have 17 Hall of Famers, three of whom are deceased. Stautner and running back John Henry Johnson, who starred for the team in the '50s and '60s are both in poor health.
