Steelers sign Aaron Smith

Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith has signed both his $1.227M restricted free agent tender for this year and a new 5-year, $25M deal with a $5.5M signing bonus, as well.

Smith essentially signed a 6-year deal, but the 2002 compensation will be his tender offer of $1.227M. This allows the Steelers to have a lower-end first-year cap hit for Smith, as they are under cap restraints. The new deal locks-up Smith through 2007.
