Simmons -- a 6-3, 313 lb offensive tackle from the University of Auburn -- was the only Steeler draft choice remaining that had not signed a contract. Simmons will make the move to right guard and compete with linemates Oliver Ross, Keydrick Vincent, and Chukky Okobi for the starting job left vacant by Rich Tylski's departure.

Simmons signed a 5-year, $6M deal that includes a $3M signing bonus.

The Steelers achieved their goal of having all players present and accounted for when training camp officially opened this evening. Both Simmons and starting right defensive end Aaron Smith were potential absentees, as neither player was under contract when the day began. The Steelers signed Smith to his $1.227M restricted free agent tender, and then agreed to a 5-year extension worth a total of $25M. Smith received a $5.5M signing bonus as part of the deals
