Steelers 0-3

The Philadelphia Eagles took advantage of two interceptions, two fumbles and two missed field goals by the Steelers in winning the battle of Pennsylvania, 16-7, Friday night. Off the field, Ben Roethlisberger made news when he told ...

... Monday Night Football's Tony Kornheiser that he "felt like a rookie" at training camp because "I was slower in my drop; things weren't as clear to me; I wasn't thinking as quickly; things were coming slower."

Kornheiser had asked Roethlisberger about his recovery from the June 12 motorcycle accident. "He said he still occasionally, maybe once a week, suffers from vertigo," Korheiser told the listening audience during the first quarter of the game that was televised by the MNF crew.

Roethlisberger looked sharp in driving the Steelers to the Eagles' 35 on his first series, but a grounding penalty, a sack, and an interception on third-and-38 halted the drive.

Roethlisberger's second series ended in a missed 50-yard field goal attempt by Jeff Reed.

Roethlisberger finished the game with nine completions in 14 attempts for 52 yards and the interception. In three preseason games, Roethlisberger is 15 for 22 for 111 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His passer rating is 76.1.

The Eagles' David Akers kicked field goals of 40 and 49 yards for a 6-0 lead before the Steelers scored their only points late in the second quarter on a 23-yard pass from Charlie Batch to Cedrick Wilson. The Steelers scored with only 38 seconds left in the half, but allowed the Eagles to drive 35 yards for a 52-yard Akers field goal and a 9-7 halftime lead.

The Eagles struck quickly in the third quarter. A 61-yard pass from Jeff Garcia to Greg Lewis, over cornerback Ricardo Colclough, resulted in a 16-7 Eagles lead with 10:24 left in the third.

The Steelers' Omar Jacobs fumbled away the ball during his only series at quarterback. Fellow rookie Shane Boyd drove the Steelers to the Eagles' 5 late in the fourth quarter but fumbled when sacked by blitzing safety J.R. Reid with 3:52 remaining. Reid also intercepted Boyd on the next series.

The Steelers' leading receiver was rookie Willie Reid with five catches for 40 yards, while Wilson caught three passes for 41 yards and the touchdown.

Running back Willie Parker carried three times for 13 yards and caught three passes for 18 yards.

In the third-string halfback derby, Duce Staley carried 11 times for 21 yards, giving him 46 yards on 23 carries (2.0) this preseason. John Kuhn gained 24 yards on six carries, giving him 69 yards on 16 carries (4.3) but has played later than Staley in every game.

The Steelers sacked Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb three times, once each by Larry Foote, Clark Haggans and Brett Keisel.

The Steelers now have scored 30 points this preseason. ... Their only healthy scratch was rookie cornerback Anthony Madison. ... Reed also missed a 47-yard field goal.
