Tuesday Morning Practice Report

After cancelling a couple of practices and giving some veterans off to beat the heat at St. Vincent College, head coach Bill Cowher was wearing a sweatshirt for Tuesday morning's practice. With the temperatures in the high-60s to low-70s, it almost felt chilly here Tuesday morning. But it was a welcome relief for the players.

Dallas Davis remains out with his hamstring pull. He was joined on the sidelines by tight end Jerame Tuman (abdominal pull) and wide receiver Plaxico Burress (groin). Burress, who aggravated a previous injury Monday afternoon, was walking gingerly. Then again, if I had a 10-pound bag of ice taped to my groin, I'd be walking a little funny too.

The team focused, as it normally does in the morning, on special teams and red zone offense. The team had Todd Peterson working on onside kicks. Joe O'Donnell didn't get to attempt any, showing that Peterson has the team made unless he blows up. That's too bad because it looks like O'Donnell is just as good as the veteran.

Tee Martin actually looked good today. He hit a leaping John Allred for a TD on a skinny post in the red zone drills and then stepped up in the pocket during team drills and fired a strike over the middle to Lee Mays. Too little too late. Charlie Batch made a nice throw to Troy Edwards in the corner of the end zone, lofting the ball over the defense as Edwards caught the ball and got both feet in bounds.

The team will be back at it this afternoon for its last full practice before Thursday's game.
