Thursday Afternoon Report

LATROBE -- The final full practice of training camp was a microcosm of the past four weeks: hot and dull. And it ended with fading quarterback Tee Martin throwing an interception to camp surprise Nijrell Eason.

Kordell Stewart won't play Saturday against the Detroit Lions, but he did work Thursday during the red zone period. He then joined the rest of the injured players on the sideline. Lee Flowers also did not attend practice because of personal reasons. He was replaced in the base defense by Mike Logan and in the dime by rookie Chris Hope.

Another potential injury was shaken off by Eason, who was shucked out of his shorts by wide receiver Plaxico Burress. Eason was scanned by trainers and was back on the field after a couple of plays.

A fight almost broke out between Antwaan Randle El and Chris Hope. The two rookies glared at each other after a play, but nothing came of it in a camp where only one brief scuffle between Chukky Okobi and Scott Schultz occurred.

Highlights of the team scrimmage were Erik Totten's pass defense of a perfect Tommy Maddox fade to Hines Ward; Randle El's slippery move between Eugene Clinton and Ashante Woodyard for a touchdown; Joey Porter's interception of Charlie Batch from the middle linebacker spot in the dime; and Slippery Rock's D.J. Flick stealing an interception away from Logan.
