Cleveland - The
offensive line did look better, at least on pass protection.
That should bode well, except that the Browns still seem fond of short
That is in lieu
of a running game. William Green's debut was a bust. The Browns should have won this game going away but the lack
of a running attack killed them. Kansas
City was awful defensively and kept trying to give the game away through
mistakes and penalties.
should be enough to win a game in regulation.
The Browns are still searching for some run defense.
Earl Holmes had just one tackle and was nowhere to be seen.
The problem was upfront. Earl
had an offensive lineman in his face all day.
Summary: The Browns showed little that should strike fear into the hearts of
Steeler fans. The Chiefs really
failed to generate much of a pass rush. The
Steelers will. If the Browns play as they did against the Chiefs, the
Steelers will sweep them.
p.s. Robert Griffith was a fantastic off-season acquisition. He could bring this defense together, but probably not by Week 4.
Baltimore - I
am already moving the Ravens up. Yes,
the Bengals were that bad, at home.
pretty good in his debut. He's a
legit threat at QB that could give the Steelers problems.
RB Jamal Lewis looked to be regaining his form.
But will he stay healthy? The
offensive line surprised and looked much better than I thought they would be,
maybe even the best I've seen them look. Ummmm...
the Ravens generated 7 points total. Keep
that in mind.
The Ravens are
struggling big time to run the 3-4. The
secondary made numerous mistakes and I can't remember the last time a team ran
on Baltimore like that. The defense
was worse than I thought it would be, much worse.
Keep in mind the Panthers only hung 10 points on them.
There is still a lot of pride there along with a lot of young talent.
But the 3-4? hahahahaha
Summary: The Steelers would have a field day picking apart the Ravens 3-4.
However, Redman will make plays against the Steeler secondary. If Lewis is around when these two finally square off, could
be a tight one.
p.s. No regrets about the Steelers not landing S Ed Reed, but DE Anthony Weaver would have looked good in the Steeler 3-4.
Cincy - I'm
bullish on the Bolts. I still think Drew Brees will be the surprise QB in the NFL
this season (not Gomer Holcomb).
Though hard to tell because Marty really did not put the game in his
hands. He didn't have to.
rushed 9 times for 10 yards. When's
the last time that happened? I know
the Bolts put em in a hole, but the Bengals offensive line was horrible.
Frerotte was not that bad, but he didn't exactly pass the Bengals back
into the game. No touchdowns and
just two field goals. 36 total
I knew the
Bengals secondary was suspect, but they gave up 242 net yards rushing!
The run defense was supposed to be their strong suit.
The longest Bolt rushing play only went for 22 yards.
What that says is that the Bengals were getting blown off the line of
scrimmage and never, ever stuffed the run.
The defense also failed to pressure a young QB and the certainly did not
confuse him (he completed almost 80% of his passes).
Summary: The Bengals looked like the worst team in the NFL this Sunday, by a
landslide. Even the Cowboys would
have beat them (guess Jerry Jones scheduled the wrong opener).
p.s. I picked the Bengals to finish second in the AFC North. I am not sure who looks worse right now, me or the Bengals.
