Wednesday Practice Notes

Kendrell Bell returned to practice Wednesday for the Steelers, splitting time with rookie Larry Foote at inside linebacker. Bell, who is on the team's injury list as questionable, wouldn't discuss his status for Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

Neither would head coach Bill Cowher. "I'm not going to discuss the status of players," Cowher said angrily. "I had that on the injury report. I think it's unfair to the kid and I'll talk with him about it also. ... He's questionable and we'll leave it like that."

Cowher added that he's not going to put Bell, who has not played since early in the season opener at New England, on the field if the linebacker is not ready to play. "I will put a player out there who I feel can play," Cowher said. "I've always done that in my 11 years here and I'm not going to deviate from that now."

Bell injured his right ankle in the team's second preseason game at Washington. He came back to play against New England in the season-opener, but admitted that he wasn't ready. "I rushed myself to be out there for that game because it was the first game of the season and it was on a Monday night," Bell said. "I don't want to do that again."

In other news Wednesday, safety Mike Logan, left tackle Wayne Gandy, running back Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, and long-snapper Mike Schneck did not practice. Logan is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, while Gandy is probable with an ankle sprain. Fuamatu-Ma'afala and Schneck are out.
