Wednesday Practice Report

Running back Jerome Bettis returned to practice Wednesday and looked good running the ball as he saw his most extensive work in the past three weeks.

"Jerome did more today than he did even last week," said head coach Bill Cowher. "Barring a setback, he should be OK to play Sunday."

Bettis participated in just a couple of snaps in Sunday's 34-34 tie against Atlanta, seeing his first game action since spraining his knee in a victory over Indianapolis.

He practiced last Thursday, but suffered swelling in the knee and sat out Friday's session.

In other news Wednesday, backup center Chukky Okobi suffered a bruised shoulder during practice and did not return. The injury is not considered serious.

Wide receiver Plaxico Burress (ankle) and running back Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala (chest) did not practice Wednesday. Burress was held out as a precaution, while Fuamatu-Ma'afala is still probably a week from returning. The Steelers released former Chartiers Valley High School running back Antwon McCray from their practice squad and signed wide receiver Francis St. Paul.
