Steelers To Interview Ford City QB

Who will backup quarterback Tommy Maddox on Sunday's for the Steelers ?

Steelers are pursuing two known, well traveled Qbs of the NFL. Steelers look to find an option to Charlie Batch, if Batch leaves via free agency searching for a starting position.

Reports say Ford City, PA, native Gus Frerotte will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.

Frerotte signed with the Cincinnati Bengals last year on May 1 and brought the talents of a reliable back-up, a sometimes rare commodity in the NFL. The 10-year veteran started 3 games last season for the Bengals posting a horrid 41.6 passer rating. He actually started the season as the Bengals starter, but he was pulled quickly in favor of Jon Kitna.

His best year was in 1996 when he made the Pro Bowl as Washington Redskins and passed for 3453 yards. The last season he started over ten games was in 1997 with the Redskins.

Frerotte is perhaps best known for giving himself a concussion when he purposely headbutted a wall while celebrating a touchdown. Having scored in the second quarter of a 1997 game against the New York Giants, Frerotte chose to celebrate by head-butting a concrete wall.

This looks to be the beginning of a quarterback derby for the Steelers as Jeff Blake is scheduled to visit on Sunday.

Charlie Batch, whom the front office hopes to resign, has yet to make a splash with other NFL Teams in free agency.
