T.O.: Jets' Revis is just 'average'

Last offseason, Jets CB Darrelle Revis called Terrell Owens a "slouch." Now Owens says Revis is "average." Who's right? We'll find out Thursday night.

It's pretty clear by now that Terrell Owens doesn't need to be on a good team to stir the pot. He can do it on a losing club just as easily as he can on a playoff contender.

T.O., who's done most of his talking on the field this season, tossed a few well-timed barbs in the direction of New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on Tuesday, calling him "average," according to ESPNNewYork. The Bengals and Jets meet Thursday night.

"Just an average corner to me," Owens, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver told reporters in Cincinnati. "Everybody has assessed his abilities as far as what he did last year, shutdown corner, this and that. He did very well last year. But I think I'm looking forward to the challenge, just like he's looking forward to the challenge."

For the record, Owens has played well on a Bengals team that is going nowhere. He has 62 receptions and 897 yards, but the Bengals are 2-8 and tied with the Buffalo Bills for the worst record in the AFC.

Naturally, there's history between Owens and Revis. In two games last season, the Jets cornerback held Owens to six receptions for 44 yards. T.O. believes his numbers were more a result of the Bills offense on which he played than Revis' coverage.

"No disrespect," Owens said. "He's only done one thing for one year. You talk about shutdown corners, you need to repeatedly do it, year in and year out. I think he did it one year, and everybody made a lot of hoopla about it. I think, you know, he started feeling himself, then he wanted to come out and say that I'm a slouch."

The slouch comment Owens referred to was made by Revis in a TV interview last offseason when he played a word association game and Owens' name was brought up. He also referred to Randy Moss as a slouch.

So what did Revis have to say about Owens' remarks?

"I'll see him on Thursday night," Revis said. "Everybody knows T.O. He's going to be T.O."
