Peyton Manning might be sidelined for opener

Although Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Peyton Manning has been the equivalent of the NFL's iron man having never missed a start, the reality of his second neck surgery in the past two years could sideline him for the beginning of the regular season.

"We r evaluating the QB sitch,#18 healing but we got 2 b prepared 4 early season possibility without him, defense has 2 pick it up,big time!" Colts owner Jim Irsay wrote on his Twitter account.

With Manning on the physically unable to perform list, Irsay went on to ask fans who the Colts should sign to bolster the position during Manning's rehabilitation period.

The Colts have quarterbacks Dan Orlovsky and Curtis Painter under contract.

"It's just in terms of he's still caught in the same rehab mode, working extremely hard, as hard as he possibly can," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said today in remarks distributed by the team. "The doctors, as of today, have not released anything."

In other words, nothing has changed
