Redskins go with Rex Grossman

In Washington, the Redskins have elected Rex Grossman as their starting quarterback over John Beck. "Obviously you make a decision based for the season," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "When you pick a guy out, you're not going to say, 'Hey, you think that guy's going to fail.' Obviously you hoping he's going to be very successful." Grossman is 20-14 as a starter.

He passed for 407 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for a 92.3 passer rating during the preseason.

Beck has never won an NFL start. He had a solid preseason, but not quite as good as Grossman.

"I've got a lot of faith in both of them. It was very competitive all the way through," Shanahan said. "I thought Rex won by an edge." For more coverage of the NFL, go to Follow me on Twitter: @RavensInsid
