And rookie first-round draft pick Blaine Gabbert is the backup. Garrard had a high salary this year of roughly $8 million.
Now, he's out as the starter after years of middling play.
Clearly, the Gabbert era will begin sooner rather than later after McCown operates as a bridge player to his eventual elevation.
