Hightower out for year with torn ACL

It was a costly game for the Washington Redskins. Not only did they lose to the Carolina Panthers, but starting running back Tim Hightower is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan made the announcement today

Hightower had started all but one game this year. He rushed for 321 yards and a touchdown this year.

Hightower got hurt in the third quarter of a 33-20 defeat Sunday. Meanwhile, veteran wide receiver Santana Moss will miss the next five to seven weeks after having surgery to repair his broken hand today.
