Lions shut down Jahvid Best

The Detroit Lions shut it down with running back Jahvid Best, ending his season by placing him on injured reserve. Best has been sidelined for the past five games ever since he sustained a concussion against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions are also dealing with another injury at running back with Kevin Smith having a sprained ankle. Best first suffered a concussion during training camp, and he experienced symptoms of concussions at Cal.

"From the outset, we have been appropriately cautious and have followed all medical protocol with respect to Jahvid's injury," Lions coach Jim Schwartz told reporters today "We look forward to his continued improvement and eventual return to the field."

Best finishes the season with 390 rushing yards and two touchdowns along with 27 receptions for 287 yards.
