Joey Porter placed on injured reserve

The Arizona Cardinals shut it down with former Pro Bowl outside linebacker Joey Porter, placing him on injured reserve today. The Cardinals replaced him on the active roster by promoting linebacker Brandon Williams from the practice squad, signing running back William Powell to the practice squad.

There's immediate concern that this could spell the end of Porter's career after 98 career sacks. He has a knee problem that required surgery earlier this season and is in the final year of his contract.

And he recorded only one sack in six games this season and five sacks last season, taking a paycut to $1.5 million before this year.

Plus, the Cardinals are happy with rookie outside linebacker Sam Acho, a former University of Texas standout.

In his day, Porter was one of the most ferocious pass rushers in the game. Now, he's reaching the twilight of a strong career.
