Dolphins' tackle placed on IR

The Miami Dolphins placed Pro Bowl left offensive tackle Jake Long on injured reserve Wednesday due to a torn right bicep suffered against the New England Patriots.

In addition to his bicep injury, Long has also had issues with his back and knee this season. But he has only missed two career games, which will include this regular-season finale.

The Dolphins promoted running back Richard Medlin from the practice squad.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Medlin was originally signed by the New England Patriots as a rookie free agent on Aug. 3 and was released at the end of training camp on Sept. 3.

Medlin attended Fayetteville State where he played in 10 games and gained 772 yards on 144 carries as a senior in 2010. He was also named CIAA Special Teams Player of the Year in 2008 after returning two kickoffs for touchdowns.
