Jets try out rugby player Hayden Smith

The New York Jets tried out Australian rugby player Hayden Smith, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Smith wasn't immediately signed to a contract, though.

A 6-foot-7, 240-pounder originally from Penrith, Austraila who attended Metropolitan State in Denver, Smith began playing rugby in the seventh grade.

He was the basketball team captain in college.

After college, Smith played rugby for the Denver Barbos and played last season for the Aviva Premiership Champions,Saracens, and was named Aviva Community Player of the Year.
