"I'm not sure if they're going to or not, but that's something they mentioned," Jets coach Rex Ryan told New York reporters. "I'm not sure where it would be or anything like that. I know they had mentioned that to me."
"It seemed like that was what Santonio was talking about. I don't know if he's reached out to Mark yet and done anything but that is what I believe to be true."
Sanchez and Holmes got along decently their first season, by all account.
By the end of last season, they weren't on the same page anymore.
"The first year they had good chemistry together," Ryan said. "Whatever happened, happened but we'll learn from it. I'm confident because I think we have to be successful, they have to be successful together. I know one thing they are both extremely competitive.
"There isn't one person in this organization who feels good about where we finished. I think the strength of our football team will be in how we feel about each other and all that, the chemistry that we've always built. I think that will be a strength and won't be a weakness like it might have been perceived this year."
Ryan acknowledged that team chemistry was a problem last season.
"I know we had some bumps in the road, no question," Ryan said. "I feel great about where I think we can go and how we can pull this team back together."
The Jets have no plans to cut Holmes, who's signed to a five-year, $45 million contract that will include $15 million in guaranteed money if he remains on the roster Wednesday.
"That's not going to happen," Ryan said when asked if Holmes will be released.
