D.J. Woods Q&A

Speedy Cincinnati wide receiver D.J. Woods is primed for his campus Pro Day workout Friday. Woods is expecting to run the 40-yard dash in the 4.3 range. He caught 37 passes for 450 yards and two touchdowns last season after hauling in a career-high 57 passes for 898 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.

Scout caught up with the 6-foot, 180-pound Strongsville, Ohio native this week for the following interview:

Scout: How ready are you for your Pro Day?

Woods: "I feel really ready. This is my shot and I want to do something with it. I want to raise my performance in front of all of those coaches."

Scout: What's your epxectation for the 40-yard dash?

Woods: "About a 4.35 or even sub 4.3. I expect to run fast."

Scout: How did most cornerbacks play you?

Woods: "They played off coverage. They wanted to see what I would do when I got to 10 yards. We had a nice receiving corps. Most people playerd a lot of zone. The only one who played man coverage was Rutgers."

Scout: Is there a particular round you're aiming toward in the draft?

Woods: "Not really. I just want to get picked up and stay in the NFL. I'm absorbing everything. I'm learning. I want to be the best receiver in the NFL on and off the field. I want to get under the veterans' wing and learn everything I can."

For his career, he finished with 159 receptions for 2,156 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He also rushed for two touchdowns and 123 yards on 15 carries and has returned punts and kickoffs.

In high school, he caught 153 passes for 1,797 yards and 18 touchdowns and returned eight kicks for scores.

Scout: Is there an NFL wide receiver you emulate?

Woods: "I would say Victor Cruz. He wasn't drafted. I might get drafted or I might not. He was a free agent and nobody gave him a chance but the Giants. I have total respect for that guy. I love watching him."

Scout: What's your best route?

Woods: "I'm very confident in all my routes, but I like the curl comeback or something deep. I'll go over the middle. I'll do whatever they need me to do."

Scout: Any hobbies besides football?

Woods: "I would like to go to culinary school and be a chef one day. I watch all those cooking shows. I like being creative and making something out of nothing."
