Rams trade second overall pick to Redskins

The Washington Redskins have positioned themselves to land Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III through a blockbuster trade, acquiring the second overall pick of the NFL draft from the St. Louis Rams.

In exchange for the coveted selection that gives the Redskins a chance to draft the multi-dimensional Heisman Trophy winner, the Rams get the Redskins' sixth overall pick of the first round as well as the Redskins' first-round draft pick for the following two years and the Redskins' second-round draft pick in this year's draft.

The trade can't become official until Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. when the league year starts. The Redskins quickly rebounded and moved on to get themselves a shot at RG3 once they learned that Peyton Manning wasn't enamored of them and was pursuing opportunities with the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins.

Now, the Redskins can obtain a young, charismatic dual threat in Griffin. The Redskins gave up a lot, but are hoping to jumpstart the franchise with Griffin.

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to use the first overall pick of the draft to select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.
