Jerome Simpson sentenced to 15 days in jail

Sentenced to 15 days in jail and assigned to three years probation in his plea agreement with Kentucky prosecutors, Cincinnati Bengals free agent wide receiver Jerome Simpson pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge involving two pounds of marijuana being shipped to his home. Initially indicted on marijuana trafficking, the case was reduced to prohibited act relating to controlled substances.

He was given 200 hours of community service, fined $7,500 and ordered to undergo drug testing.

"I take full responsibility for my actions," Simpson said in court.

Simpson caught 53 passes for 758 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Bengals issued a statement saying that Simpson: "has, and will continue to, deal accountably with the consequences of his actions. Jerome is presently a free agent, and the Club will continue to review his status."

Although Simpson has his legal problems, he's still looking for a job. He worked out for the St. Louis Rams this week.

The Rams are also evaluating wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, a Pittsburgh Steelers free agent.
