Scouting the ACC: Virginia

The Cavaliers had a solid campaign in 2002 finishing off the year with a wupin' of West Virginia in the first ever Continental Tire Bowl. The senior talent on this roster is only ordinary, though they have a few underclassmen to watch.

Quarterback Matt Schaub is a solid short-to-intermediate range passer with a good head on his shoulders and passer who makes good decisions in the pocket. That said he's just an average athlete who lacks the deep arm.

Michael McGrew offers consistency at receiver, though he does not possess the deep speed. McGrew will move up draft boards should he turn in a good senior campaign now that Billy McMullen has graduated.

Kevin Bailey is a solid center with the versatility to play several spots up front while Elton Brown displays the ability to dominate at guard and could fall into the middle rounds.

Christ Canty is the defender everyone has their eye on. A nice sized lineman, Canty makes an unusual amount of plays up the field, as he's a prospect with great natural strength and the frame to add bulk. Lacking the top explosion or quickness, Canty could be placed at left defensive end or would be effective as a two-gap lineman at the next level, as he is presently for the Cavaliers.
