Source: Dolphins' Wake agrees to extension

The Miami Dolphins have hammered out a $49 million contract extension with star pass rusher Cameron Wake that includes $20 million in guaranteed money, a league source confirmed.

The Dolphins late announced the deal had been finalized.

"We are pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with Cam and his agent, Paul Sheehy, to extend Cam's contract," Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said. "Cam has been a productive player ever since he joined the Dolphins, and has been a great teammate and an outstanding citizen. His work ethic and professionalism on the field and in the locker room has made him a leader by example.

"We also appreciate all the community activities he has done. We always try to reward our own players for their contributions to the team and Cam certainly deserves that recognition. I want to thank Cam and Paul for their hard work in getting this extension done."

Now, he's under contract at a deal that's commensurate with his status as one of the top players at his position.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound outside linebacker and former Canadian Football League standout had 8 1/2 sacks and 42 tackles last season.

In three NFL seasons, Wake has 122 tackles and 28 sacks with four forced fumbles.
