Dolphins work out WR Ochocinco

The Miami Dolphins auditioned former New England Patriots and Cincinati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.

"We're doing our homework," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin told reporters on Monday.

The former Pro Bowl selection wasn't immediately signed to a contract.

The Miami Herald reported that Ochocinco, who played at Miami Beach High School, feels the team has "genuine interest" in signing him to a contract.

Ochocinco, 34, didn't grasp the playbook well with the Patriots, and he never developed good timing with quarterback Tom Brady.

At a cost of $5.75 million last season, the Patriots didn't get much production from the former All-Pro wide receiver.

He caught just 15 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown last season.

He was acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick.

According to reports, Ochocinco jumped offsides at a Patriots practice and frequently lined up in the wrong spot.

New England cut Ochocinco even though he accepted a paycut from $3 million to $925,000 this offseason.

For his career, Ochocinco has caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.

Ochocinco, who boasts nearly 3.5 million followers on Twitter, has reportedly told friends that he would like to play in Miami, where he is set to marry VH1 reality star Evelyn Lozada.

"What a beautiful morning...," Ochocinco wrote on Twitter Monday.

The Dolphins traded Brandon Marshall, their top wideout the past two seasons, to the Chicago Bears and opted not to select a wide receiver until the late rounds of the NFL Draft.
