INDIANAPOLIS - Former Tennessee offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James took his turn at the podium inside Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday afternoon, answering media questions on his skill set, preferred blocking scheme and his overall schedule while at the 2014 NFL Draft Combine.
James indicated he has "four or five" interviews set up with NFL teams tonight and another "10 or 12" tomorrow. The players are not notified in advance of which teams have requested to meet with them.
Check out the HD video of James, as well as a transcript of his quotes, below.
On being a right tackle versus left tackle ...
"I face great pass-rushers all the time in the SEC. I can pass block, and I can run block. A tackle to me is a tackle. I feel like I can be both. I'm just going to go out here and show my skills and show what I can do."
On if he feels he can play right away in NFL ...
"I definitely feel like I'm going to come in with the mindset (to play right away). You've got to come with the mindset that you're going to play as a starter, come in and try to learn from the older guys and the coaches and get my technique down. I'm just going to go out there and compete. That's all I can do is compete."
On if he's met with the Ravens and meetings in general ...
"I haven't talked to them [the Ravens] here yet. I talked to them at the Senior Bowl. I've got a couple (of interviews) lined up tonight. I didn't have any last night; I was in the hospital (doing medical evaluations), but I'm looking forward to meeting with these coaches."
On if Tennessee switched blocking schemes last season ...
"We were predominantly zone this year, doing that spread-zone, zone read-options stuff like that. At the end of the day, zone is a zone, but we did a lot more man-blocking schemes with Coach [Jim] Chaney and all them."
On what makes him good for the zone scheme ...
"Definitely my ability to move. I pick up on things quick. We had three different coaches, three playbooks. Just picking up on that fast, that definitely helps and puts you ahead of the curve. I feel like I have the skill set to do a lot of different things."
