Redskins Draft Preview

The Redskins were active this off-season but still have big needs going into the NFL Draft.

Washington Redskins
2014 draft picks:
2nd round (34), 3(66), 4(102), 5(142), 6(178), 7(217)

The Redskins were a huge disappointment last season, as Robert Griffin, III struggled in coming back from his knee injury. Washington only won three games and coach Mike Shanahan was fired.

In comes Jay Gruden to take over but he's already behind the eight ball because the Redskins are still paying the price for the RG3 trade and don't have a first round pick. They could have had the No. 2 pick in this very talent rich draft. Instead, their top choice is the No. 34 pick overall.

As expected, Washington was pretty active in free agency. They should get a big offensive boost for their passing game with the addition of the explosive DeSean Jackson.

Team Needs

1. Defensive Back
In a division where you play against Eli Manning, Tony Romo and a Chip Kelly offense, you better be strong on the back end. The Redskins need to revamp their secondary and need a cornerback (or two) and another safety through this draft. There's no question they could address either position with their second round selection. Washington added cornerback Tracy Porter and safeties Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather via free agency.

2. Defensive End
Somebody always slides in the draft and perhaps this season it will be a defensive end. Then again, there are several steals. Washington has to improve this part of their defensive front. The free agent additions of Clifton Geathers and Jason Hatcher should be a big help to the guys playing on the outside.

3. Linebacker
Once again, Washington was active here this off-season, bringing in a trio of players. But they will still need to upgrade the inside spot with at least a guy they can groom for the future. The Redskins could also use a pass rushing outside linebacker.
