Mock Draft 3.0

Who would I pick for each NFL team if I were the General Manager of every franchise? Read it here because many of the picks vary from my first two Mock Drafts, where I predicted who I thought each team would select on Thursday, May 8th.

I have covered the NFL Draft for Scout.com both last year and this season. During this time I have done my share of mock drafts and I have always done them the same, trying to predict who I thought each team would select.

This mock draft was done a little differently. Instead of trying to forecast the 32 picks, I put on my General Manager cap for each franchise and explained who I would pick if I were running the show for that team.

Obviously if it were real, I would be willing to wheel and deal and move up and back in the first round, depending on the team and if I had a dance partner. But in this mock scenario, there are no trades. Having said that, I do believe there will be a flurry of activity in round one of next Thursday's NFL Draft.

MOCK DRAFT 1.0
MOCK DRAFT 2.0

Round 1
1
Houston Texans
Height: 6-5
Weight: 266
Hometown: Rock Hill, S.C.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 1
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Bill O'Brien
2013 Record: 2-14

ANALYSIS: If I am the Texans I take South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. First, I know I have a screaming need at quarterback but I don't see an Andrew Luck in this class. Second, I love Clowney. As I have said countless times over the past 12 months, he's the best non-quarterback to enter the draft in years. In a pass happy NFL what better way to combat these offenses then with a lethal pass rush of J.J. Watt and Clowney? My big concern is the scheme in which Houston runs under defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. It's a 3-4 and Clowney is better suited to come off the edge in a 4-3. Quite honestly, Khalil Mack is the better fit. I think what's intriguing is who and what teams will be offering the Texans for the top spot? What's their asking price? Certainly there are a handful of teams that want to wheel and deal for the No. 1 pick. The question will be do they have enough ammunition? All things equal and if Houston stands pat, my pick is Clowney. They figure out a way to make him work in their defense.

Round 1
2
St. Louis Rams
Height: 6-5
Weight: 332
Hometown: Thibodaux, La.
College: Auburn
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 3
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: If I am picking here for the Rams I have a very tough decision to make. In the end though I would take offensive tackle Greg Robinson. This is not an easy call. First, I am holding out hope that Clowney slides to the No. 2 spot. If that happens it take me all of three seconds to write his name down on the card and turn into the commissioner. But in this mock Clowney is gone. The dilemma is now between Robinson, Mack, offensive tackle Jake Matthews and wide receiver Sammy Watkins. All four prospects are tremendous players. I know I can get a great wide receiver with the No. 13 pick or even in the second round. It comes down to Mack and Robinson but I go with the more pressing need of offensive tackle. I know in St. Louis they have to get much better up front and this is the guy to build the offensive line around. In my previous mock drafts I had Jake Matthews over Robinson. Simply, he's the safer selection of the two. But in this mock scenario, I am going with greater upside of Robinson.

Round 1
3
Jacksonville Jaguars
Player: Khalil Mack
Height: 6-3
Weight: 251
Hometown: Fort Pierce, Fla.
College: Buffalo
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 2
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Gus Bradley
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: If I am the General Manager of the Jaguars I am taking outside linebacker Khalil Mack, despite the huge need to find a quarterback. Simply, he's an ideal player for the Jacksonville defensive scheme at the LEO position. He's athletic, versatile and a plug and play guy that should make an immediate impact on this unit. This is a big cat that can rush the quarterback, play in space and drop in coverage. I know there should be a good signal caller that Jacksonville can get with their second pick.

Round 1
4
Cleveland Browns
Height: 6-5
Weight: 232
Hometown: Oviedo, Fla.
College: UCF
Class: 2014 SR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Browns are in a tough spot. Do they take the best available player and get their quarterback at No. 26 or even No. 35? I don't think they can take that chance because they are desperate for a signal caller. If I am the Browns I would love to draft Johnny Manziel. The city of Cleveland could use a player with his star power. But I sense the better fit for the Browns is Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles. He's my top rated quarterback in this draft. I just see him having the most potential out of this QB group, even if it takes some time to develop. He's big, strong and athletic and I see him as a good piece to run Kyle Shanahan's offense in Cleveland.

Round 1
5
Oakland Raiders
Height: 6-1
Weight: 211
Hometown: Fort Myers, Fla.
College: Clemson
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 4
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Dennis Allen
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: If I am the General Manager of the Raiders I would select Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins. He's the top receiver in this draft, he's the most explosive player in this draft and he fills a big need on the perimeter – a playmaker for the Oakland offense. Now, if only Schaub can get him the ball.

Round 1
6
Atlanta Falcons
Height: 6-5
Weight: 308
Hometown: Missouri City, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 6
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike Smith
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Falcons would love to add a pass rusher here but they are also in position to land a big time offensive tackle. The call here for Atlanta is to select Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews. He's the most ready to play of the elite offensive line prospects. So, Matthews is a plug and play guy in Atlanta and may not come out of the lineup for 10 years. He will be quarterback Matt Ryan's best friend and improve their pass protection and run game.

Round 1
7
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Height: 6-0
Weight: 207
Hometown: Kerrville, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SO
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 9
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Lovie Smith
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: I would be hoping that Clowney, Mack or Watkins slide to No. 7. However, that's highly unlikely given that they are all top five guys. The Bucs don't have enough ammunition to move up because of all their needs. Tampa Bay could use help at wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, defensive end, outside linebacker and cornerback. They did sign quarterback Josh McCown. But he's a band-aid, not a long term solution. That is why Johnny Manziel is the pick here. New Buccaneer head coach Lovie Smith has met with Manziel multiple times and seems to be infatuated with the former Texas A&M signal caller. The Bucs have to get and groom their future franchise quarterback. If not now then when?

Round 1
8
Minnesota Vikings
Player: Derek Carr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 214
Hometown: Bakersfield, Calif.
College: Fresno State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 24
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
2013 Record: 5-10

ANALYSIS: The Vikings have to find their future signal caller in this draft. With Bortles and Manziel gone it comes down to a choice between Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr. I believe Carr is the better fit for new Minnesota offensive coordinator Norv Turner's system. I suspect that the Vikings could be a team wheeling and dealing inside the first round.

Round 1
9
Buffalo Bills
Player: Mike Evans
Height: 6-5
Weight: 231
Hometown: Galveston, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SO
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 14
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Doug Marrone
2013 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: The Bills are an interesting team here at this spot. It's easy to say they will draft former North Carolina standout Eric Ebron but I think No. 9 is too high for this tight end. This spot is right in the wheel house for another Aggie. That's why I have the Bills taking wide receiver Mike Evans. He's one of the top players on the board and fills a big need in Buffalo. He's a huge outside wide receiver that will be a great target in the red-zone for quarterback E.J. Manuel.

Round 1
10
Detroit Lions
Height: 6-11
Weight: 199
Hometown: Jeffersonville, Ga.
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 18
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jim Caldwell
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Lions have pressing needs in their young secondary. I would stay home and go local, drafting former Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard. He's the best all-around corner in this draft, as he excels in coverage and is tough in run support. Detroit has to get better in the back end and Dennard would be a terrific building block in the secondary for this defense.

Round 1
11
Tennessee Titans
Player: Anthony Barr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 255
Hometown: Los Angeles, Calif.
College: UCLA
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 7
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Ken Whisenhunt
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: In my previous mocks I had the Titans taking former Oklahoma State standout Justin Gilbert. Cornerback is a big need because Tennessee lost Alterraun Verner in free agency to Tampa Bay. However, if I were running the show, I would step up and draft Anthony Barr. The Titans are moving from a 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme and need that athletic, pass rushing outside linebacker. Barr is that guy.

Round 1
12
New York Giants
Player: Aaron Donald
Height: 6-1
Weight: 285
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pa.
College: Pittsburgh
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 5
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: Will Aaron Donald really slip this far? I have him as a top ten talent and the No. 1 defensive tackle in this draft. He's an ideal three-technique in the Giants 4-3 scheme. Donald lacks great size but has everything else. He's so quick, fast and strong at the point of attack. I think he's future on Sundays is very bright in the Big Apple. His selection will ease of the free agency pain and loss of Linval Joseph.

Round 1
13
St. Louis Rams
Height: 6-1
Weight: 208
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 19
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: It would be very tempting to nab cornerback Justin Gilbert here or even a wide receiver. But the most pressing issue now since St. Louis has already picked Greg Robinson is safety. That's why the pick here is HaHa Clinton-Dix from Alabama. He should be a plug and play guy from day one and be a huge addition to this Rams defense.

Round 1
14
Chicago Bears
Player: Calvin Pryor
Height: 6-11
Weight: 207
Hometown: Port Saint Joe, Fla.
College: Louisville
Class: 2014 SR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 22
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Marc Trestman
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: Again, like the Rams, do you bypass cornerback Justin Gilbert? I think you have to if you want immediate safety help. Calvin Pryor from Louisville is the pick here. He's a hard hitting safety that can play in coverage. Pryor will have a chance to rock the Windy City.

Round 1
15
Pittsburgh Steelers
Height: 6-0
Weight: 202
Hometown: Huntsville, Texas
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 21
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: The Steelers have pressing needs at wide receiver and in the secondary. If I were calling the shots in Pittsburgh I wouldn't let cornerback Justin Gilbert slip past me. He's an athletic guy on the perimeter who will also bring a ton of excitement to the Steel City in the kick return game.

Round 1
16
Dallas Cowboys
Player: Taylor Lewan
Height: 7-7
Weight: 309
Hometown: Scottsdale, Ariz.
College: Michigan
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 10
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Jason Garrett
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: If I am Jerry Jones you have to protect the man you are paying all that money to in Tony Romo. Left tackle Taylor Lewan is still on the board. I know there are more pressing needs in Big D regarding the defense, but I can't pass on Lewan. He was a very good four-year starter in Ann Arbor and has everything you look for in a guy that could have a very long and prosperous career at one of the game's most difficult positions to play. He's a steal here at No. 16.

Round 1
17
Baltimore Ravens
Player: Zack Martin
Height: 6-4
Weight: 308
Hometown: Indianapolis, Ind.
College: Notre Dame
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 11
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I absolutely love the versatility of Zach Martin. He can play either tackle position as well as guard. To be honest, I think he's one of the best football players in this draft. He's my pick for the Ravens and could slide right in and play right tackle in Baltimore.

Round 1
18
New York Jets
Player: Eric Ebron
Height: 6-4
Weight: 250
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: TE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 20
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Rex Ryan
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: The Jets need some more firepower at wide receiver. But it's a deep position in this draft. Here they are in position to grab the top tight end in Eric Ebron. He will quickly become the New York quarterback's best friend, whether it's Michael Vick or Geno Smith. The Jets can take care of the receiver position later in the draft. I can't pass on Ebron.

Round 1
19
Miami Dolphins
Height: 6-2
Weight: 299
Hometown: Lake City, Fla.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 13
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Joe Philbin
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I would have loved to have drafted Zach Martin from Notre Dame but the Ravens snatched him up two spots ahead. I think it's a tad too early to nab offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandijo. I could go wide receiver here but I am going to opt to get some beef up front on the defensive line in tackle Timmy Jernigan. He's the highest rated player on the board and the Dolphins could use another stout interior guy.

Round 1
20
Arizona Cardinals
Height: 6-2
Weight: 214
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
College: Louisville
Class: 2014 JR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 12
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Bruce Arians
2013 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: It's funny because I actually mocked a quarterback (Derek Carr) to Arizona in my first version thinking the Cardinals may look a year or two down the line in finding Carson Palmer's replacement. That's exactly what I would do if Teddy Bridgewater was still on the board. His pro day doesn't bother me one lick. I saw what he did for four seasons at Louisville. He's an accurate and ultra-competitive quarterback that wins. Bridgewater is the call here and he could very well become one of the steals of the draft at No. 20.

Round 1
21
Green Bay Packers
Height: 6-2
Weight: 234
Hometown: Theodore, Ala.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 SR
Position: MLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 15
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike McCarthy
2013 Record: 8-7

ANALYSIS: Green Bay needs help on a few fronts including the linebacker position. Former Crimson Tide inside ‘backer C.J. Mosley is the pick here for the Packers. He will be the future quarterback of the Green Bay defense. Mosley is a guy that should never have to leave the field, as he plays the run and pass equally well. They should love him in Lambeau.

Round 1
22
Philadelphia Eagles
Player: Bradley Roby
Height: 6-11
Weight: 194
Hometown: Suwanee, Ga.
College: Ohio State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 32
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Chip Kelly
2013 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: If I am Chip Kelly it's very tempting to go wide receiver here after cutting ties with DeSean Jackosn, especially with guys like Brandin Cooks and Kelvin Benjamin still on the board. But, the Eagles must continue to rebuild the defense, especially the secondary. Philadelphia needs help at all spots in the back end. But here I would go with the speedy cornerback from Ohio State in Bradley Roby. He played better his junior season than senior year and that bothers some folks. Heck, you can say that about a few guys (Clowney being one). He's a terrific athlete with a lot of upside that fills a one major need for the Eagles.

Round 1
23
Kansas City Chiefs
Player: Marqise Lee
Height: 6-0
Weight: 192
Hometown: Gardena, Calif.
College: USC
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 16
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Andy Reid
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: To be honest, Kansas City and Andy Reid having more pressing needs than wide receiver. They do need help in the secondary at both safety and cornerback. But the Chiefs won't pass on one of the best receivers in this draft in Marqise Lee. I think he has star written all over him, especially if Lee plays like he did as a freshman and sophomore while at Southern Cal. He comes from a pro system, is a fantastic route runner and best of all, he's a playmaker. I think this kid is a dynamic talent.

Round 1
24
Cincinnati Bengals
Player: Kony Ealy
Height: 6-4
Weight: 273
Hometown: New Madrid, Mo.
College: Missouri
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 27
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Marvin Lewis
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: If Kony Ealy is on the board for the Bengals when they are up it wouldn't take me long to turn this selection into the commissioner. Ealy is the No. 2 ranked defensive end in this draft. He big, long, athletic and good against the run and pass. Sure he needs some polish but that's exactly what Marvin Lewis and his staff will do with this former Missouri Tiger.

Round 1
25
San Diego Chargers
Player: Louis Nix
Height: 6-2
Weight: 331
Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.
College: Notre Dame
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 34
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike McCoy
2013 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: Like a few teams ahead of them the Chargers really need to bolster their secondary. This is a tough one because there are still guys on the board like cornerbacks Kyle Fuller and Jason Verrett. But I can't pass on an interior presence like nose guard Louis Nix. He will be an animal in the middle of the San Diego defense and eat up blockers and help free defenders to make plays. It also will help with the loss of nose tackle Cam Thomas to Pittsburgh.

Round 1
26
Cleveland Browns
Height: 6-10
Weight: 189
Hometown: Stockton, Calif.
College: Oregon State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 26
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Browns got their quarterback in Bortles. Now Cleveland needs to get Josh Gordon someone else to worry about regarding their passing game. Former Beaver standout Brandin Cooks has blazing speed and is a big play waiting to happen. He will primarily play in the slot but can also line up on the outside.

Round 1
27
New Orleans Saints
Player: Dee Ford
Height: 6-2
Weight: 252
Hometown: Odenville, Ala.
College: Auburn
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 30
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: All in all, Sean Peyton's move last season from the 4-3 to the 3-4 went pretty well. Still, they would love to add a pass rushing presence from the outside. That's exactly what Dee Ford will bring to the New Orleans defense as an outside linebacker. On that Superdome turf he has a chance to be a force on the edge.

Round 1
28
Carolina Panthers
Height: 6-5
Weight: 240
Hometown: Belle Glade, Fla.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 23
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Ron Rivera
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: If I am Carolina, I am so tempted to take offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandijo here. He would fill a big need and shore up the offensive line. But the Panthers have a screaming need at wide receiver and really need two from this draft. Sure it's a deep position and I could wait. But I can't pass on a guy like Kelvin Benjamin. His combination of size, deep speed and play making ability is simply outstanding.

Round 1
29
New England Patriots
Height: 7-6
Weight: 310
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minn.
College: Minnesota
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 25
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Bill Belichick
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: Ra'Shede Hagemen is an outstanding big athlete that most feel is a 4-3 defensive tackle. I though disagree to a certain extend because I think he's better suited to play the five-technique (defensive end) in a 3-4 scheme. Hageman has the ideal size and better athleticism than most for this position. New England is a perfect landing spot for this one from Minnesota.

Round 1
30
San Francisco 49ers
Player: Kyle Fuller
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
College: Virginia Tech
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 35
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: The 49ers have a truck load of picks (11 in all) and if I were running their show I would be active in trying to find a dance partner to move up. But in this mock, there are no trades. Having said that, I would take the best wide receiver or cornerback on the board. In this scenario, I would opt for cornerback Kyle Fuller from Virginia Tech. This is a kid that could really develop into something special. He has all the tools for the position.

Round 1
31
Denver Broncos
Player: Ryan Shazier
Height: 6-1
Weight: 237
Hometown: Plantation, Fla.
College: Ohio State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 17
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: John Fox
2013 Record: 13-3

ANALYSIS: I have always been a huge Ryan Shazier fan and I feel his game will be great in the NFL. This kid has terrific athleticism and he can absolutely fly to the football. He would give the Broncos a nice dose of speed, as he can play sideline to sideline. At No. 31 Shazier would be a steal for John Elway and John Fox.

Round 1
32
Seattle Seahawks
Player: Jace Amaro
Height: 6-5
Weight: 265
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
College: Texas Tech
Class: 2014 JR
Position: TE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 38
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Pete Carroll
2013 Record: 13-3

ANALYSIS: The Seahawks are always a wildcard when it comes to the draft but the powers that be in Seattle have proven they know exactly what they are doing. The Super Bowl champs could use another playmaker at wide receiver and they would like to bolster their offensive front. But how about a tight end weapon like Jace Amaro from Texas Tech? This is a kid that could pose some interesting matchup problems for a defense because he can play in-line or you can flex him out wide. Amaro could become another weapon for quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seahawk offense. He's my pick here for Seattle. He's who I mocked originally to the Seahawks in version one.

Why the Jaguars make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1226072]

Hometown: Fort Pierce, Fla.
College: Buffalo

QB Blake Bortles
UCF
Why the Browns make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1277626]
Player: Blake Bortles
Height: 6-5

\r\n

Round 1
5
Oakland Raiders
WR Sammy Watkins
Clemson
Why the Raiders make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1226186]
Player: Sammy Watkins
Height: 6-1

\r\n

Round 1
6
Atlanta Falcons
OT Jake Matthews
Texas A&M
Why the Falcons make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1226100]
Player: Jake Matthews
Height: 6-5

\r\n

Round 1
7
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
QB Johnny Manziel
Texas A&M
Why the Buccaneers make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1218530]
Player: Johnny Manziel
Height: 6-0

\r\n

Round 1
8
Minnesota Vikings
QB Derek Carr
Fresno State
Why the Vikings make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1214161]
Player: Derek Carr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 214
Hometown: Bakersfield, Calif.
College: Fresno State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 24
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
2013 Record: 5-10

ANALYSIS: The Vikings have to find their future signal caller in this draft. With Bortles and Manziel gone it comes down to a choice between Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr. I believe Carr is the better fit for new Minnesota offensive coordinator Norv Turner's system. I suspect that the Vikings could be a team wheeling and dealing inside the first round.

\r\n

Round 1
9
Buffalo Bills
WR Mike Evans
Texas A&M
Why the Bills make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1226180]

Manuel.

\r\n

Round 1
10
Detroit Lions
CB Darqueze Dennard
Michigan State
Why the Lions make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1205602]
Player: Darqueze Dennard
Height: 6-11
Weight: 199
Hometown: Jeffersonville, Ga.
College: Michigan State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 18
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jim Caldwell
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Lions have pressing needs in their young secondary. I would stay home and go local, drafting former Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard. He's the best all-around corner in this draft, as he excels in coverage and is tough in run support. Detroit has to get better in the back end and Dennard would be a terrific building block in the secondary for this defense.

\r\n

Round 1
11
Tennessee Titans
OLB Anthony Barr
UCLA
Why the Titans make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1213090]

\r\n

Round 1
12
New York Giants
DT Aaron Donald
Pittsburgh
Why the Giants make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1277501]
Player: Aaron Donald
Height: 6-1
Weight: 285
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pa.
College: Pittsburgh
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 5
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: Will Aaron Donald really slip this far? I have him as a top ten talent and the No. 1 defensive tackle in this draft. He's an ideal three-technique in the Giants 4-3 scheme. Donald lacks great size but has everything else. He's so quick, fast and strong at the point of attack. I think he's future on Sundays is very bright in the Big Apple. His selection will ease of the free agency pain and loss of Linval Joseph.

\r\n

Round 1
13
St. Louis Rams
S HaHa Clinton-Dix
Alabama
Why the Rams make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1219822]
Player: HaHa Clinton-Dix
Height: 6-1
Weight: 208
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 19
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: It would be very tempting to nab cornerback Justin Gilbert here or even a wide receiver. But the most pressing issue now since St. Louis has already picked Greg Robinson is safety. That's why the pick here is HaHa Clinton-Dix from Alabama. He should be a plug and play guy from day one and be a huge addition to this Rams defense.

\r\n

Round 1
14
Chicago Bears
S Calvin Pryor
Louisville
Why the Bears make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1277627]
Player: Calvin Pryor
Height: 6-11
Weight: 207
Hometown: Port Saint Joe, Fla.
College: Louisville
Class: 2014 SR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 22
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Marc Trestman
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: Again, like the Rams, do you bypass cornerback Justin Gilbert? I think you have to if you want immediate safety help. Calvin Pryor from Louisville is the pick here. He's a hard hitting safety that can play in coverage. Pryor will have a chance to rock the Windy City.

\r\n

Round 1
15
Pittsburgh Steelers
CB Justin Gilbert
Oklahoma State
Why the Steelers make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1216564]
Player: Justin Gilbert
Height: 6-0
Weight: 202
Hometown: Huntsville, Texas
College: Oklahoma State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 21
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: The Steelers have pressing needs at wide receiver and in the secondary. If I were calling the shots in Pittsburgh I wouldn't let cornerback Justin Gilbert slip past me. He's an athletic guy on the perimeter who will also bring a ton of excitement to the Steel City in the kick return game.

\r\n

Round 1
16
Dallas Cowboys
OT Taylor Lewan
Michigan
Why the Cowboys make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1220553]

\r\n

Round 1
17
Baltimore Ravens
OT Zack Martin
Notre Dame
Why the Ravens make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1212777]
Player: Zack Martin
Height: 6-4
Weight: 308
Hometown: Indianapolis, Ind.
College: Notre Dame
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 11
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I absolutely love the versatility of Zach Martin. He can play either tackle position as well as guard. To be honest, I think he's one of the best football players in this draft. He's my pick for the Ravens and could slide right in and play right tackle in Baltimore.

\r\n

Round 1
18
New York Jets
TE Eric Ebron
North Carolina
Why the Jets make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1226162]
Player: Eric Ebron
Height: 6-4
Weight: 250
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
College: North Carolina
Class: 2014 JR
Position: TE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 20
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Rex Ryan
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: The Jets need some more firepower at wide receiver. But it's a deep position in this draft. Here they are in position to grab the top tight end in Eric Ebron. He will quickly become the New York quarterback's best friend, whether it's Michael Vick or Geno Smith. The Jets can take care of the receiver position later in the draft. I can't pass on Ebron.

\r\n

Round 1
19
Miami Dolphins
DT Timmy Jernigan
Florida State
Why the Dolphins make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1225920]
Player: Timmy Jernigan
Height: 6-2

\r\n

Round 1
20
Arizona Cardinals
QB Teddy Bridgewater
Louisville
Why the Cardinals make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1209253]
Player: Teddy Bridgewater
Height: 6-2

\r\n

Round 1
21
Green Bay Packers
MLB C.J. Mosley Jr.
Alabama
Why the Packers make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1226074]
Player: C.J. Mosley Jr.
Height: 6-2

\r\n

Round 1
22
Philadelphia Eagles
CB Bradley Roby
Ohio State
Why the Eagles make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1225908]

\r\n

Round 1
23
Kansas City Chiefs
WR Marqise Lee
USC
Why the Chiefs make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1224632]

\r\n

Round 1
24
Cincinnati Bengals
DE Kony Ealy
Missouri
Why the Bengals make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1225905]
Player: Kony Ealy
Height: 6-4
Weight: 273
Hometown: New Madrid, Mo.
College: Missouri
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 27
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Marvin Lewis
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: If Kony Ealy is on the board for the Bengals when they are up it wouldn't take me long to turn this selection into the commissioner. Ealy is the No. 2 ranked defensive end in this draft. He big, long, athletic and good against the run and pass. Sure he needs some polish but that's exactly what Marvin Lewis and his staff will do with this former Missouri Tiger.

\r\n

Round 1
25
San Diego Chargers
DT Louis Nix
Notre Dame
Why the Chargers make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1185931]

\r\n

Round 1
26
Cleveland Browns
WR Brandin Cooks
Oregon State
Why the Browns make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1224246]
Player: Brandin Cooks
Height: 6-10
Weight: 189
Hometown: Stockton, Calif.
College: Oregon State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 26
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Browns got their quarterback in Bortles. Now Cleveland needs to get Josh Gordon someone else to worry about regarding their passing game. Former Beaver standout Brandin Cooks has blazing speed and is a big play waiting to happen. He will primarily play in the slot but can also line up on the outside.

\r\n

Round 1
27
New Orleans Saints
DE Dee Ford
Auburn
Why the Saints make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1264893]
Player: Dee Ford
Height: 6-2
Weight: 252
Hometown: Odenville, Ala.
College: Auburn
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 30
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: All in all, Sean Peyton's move last season from the 4-3 to the 3-4 went pretty well. Still, they would love to add a pass rushing presence from the outside. That's exactly what Dee Ford will bring to the New Orleans defense as an outside linebacker. On that Superdome turf he has a chance to be a force on the edge.

\r\n

Round 1
28
Carolina Panthers
WR Kelvin Benjamin
Florida State
Why the Panthers make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1260468]
Player: Kelvin Benjamin
Height: 6-5

\r\n

Round 1
29
New England Patriots
DT Ra'shede Hageman
Minnesota
Why the Patriots make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1225919]
Player: Ra'shede Hageman
Height: 7-6

\r\n

Round 1
30
San Francisco 49ers
CB Kyle Fuller
Virginia Tech
Why the 49ers make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1278670]
Player: Kyle Fuller
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
College: Virginia Tech
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 35
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: The 49ers have a truck load of picks (11 in all) and if I were running their show I would be active in trying to find a dance partner to move up. But in this mock, there are no trades. Having said that, I would take the best wide receiver or cornerback on the board. In this scenario, I would opt for cornerback Kyle Fuller from Virginia Tech. This is a kid that could really develop into something special. He has all the tools for the position.

\r\n

Round 1
31
Denver Broncos
OLB Ryan Shazier
Ohio State
Why the Broncos make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1208190]
Player: Ryan Shazier
Height: 6-1
Weight: 237
Hometown: Plantation, Fla.
College: Ohio State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 17
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: John Fox
2013 Record: 13-3

ANALYSIS: I have always been a huge Ryan Shazier fan and I feel his game will be great in the NFL. This kid has terrific athleticism and he can absolutely fly to the football. He would give the Broncos a nice dose of speed, as he can play sideline to sideline. At No. 31 Shazier would be a steal for John Elway and John Fox.

\r\n

Round 1
32
Seattle Seahawks
TE Jace Amaro
Texas Tech
Why the Seahawks make this pick [+]
[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1260766]
