49ers Draft Preview

The 49ers were active this off-season but still have big needs going into the NFL Draft.

San Francisco 49ers
2014 draft picks:
1st round (30), 2(56), 2(61), 3(77), 3(94), 3(100), 4(129), 5(170), 7(242), 7(243), 7(245)

San Francisco had another big season under Jim Harbaugh, getting to the NFC Championship Game before falling to the Seahawks. They will be back battling Seattle once again for NFC West supremacy in pro football's toughest division.

Don't feel bad for the 49ers, as they are going into the NFL Draft with 11 picks, including six of the top 100. The rich are about to get richer, especially considering the depth of this year's draft.

Team Needs

1. Defensive Backs
Like many NFL teams, San Francisco is looking to upgrade their secondary both at cornerback and safety. They will have ample ammunition in the first round to move up, if they choose, to grab whatever guy they want. The 49ers need to address both positions and come out of this draft with at least one corner and one safety.

2. Wide Receiver
Good thing that the 49ers re-signed Anquan Boldin, as he's still alive and kicking but the clock is ticking. This is still a position of need and has been for a few years. Like I state above, with so many picks, San Francisco, can move around the draft or sit tight and land an abundance of talent. It's a very good and deep year at the wide receiver position. You wonder if they will draft more than one. I would.

3. Outside Linebacker
At the end of the day how can you still count on Aldon Smith with all the troubles he has off the field? At some point you have to have an exit strategy here and look for the guy that will initially spell him and then ultimately take his place. He continues to let down the organization, coaches and teammates.

4. Quarterback
With all that is at stake are you really going into the season with Blaine Gabbert as your back up quarterback?

Blaine Gabbert (QB)
Brandon Lloyd (WR)
Jonathan Martin (OT)
Chris Cook (CB)
Antoine Bethea (S)

No Longer with the Team
Colt McCoy (QB)
Anthony Dixon (RB)
Mario Manningham (WR)
Tarell Brown (CB)
Carlos Rogers (CB)
Donte Whitner (S)
