2015 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

The Bucs have had 37 starting quarterbacks in 38 NFL seasons and they are still looking for their first true franchise quarterback. They are now on the clock in this mock draft. It's time for Tampa Bay to go get their guy - quarterback Marcus Mariota.

There are three weeks left to the 2014 NFL regular season. A handful of teams are 2-11 and the Buccaneers are currently slated with the top pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Here is a Mock Draft based on where teams currently fall in the draft order. College players won’t have to declare for the draft until January 15, so the player pool considered here are all the guys who are red-shirt sophomores and older. Here is a running list of the underclassmen that have declared for the NFL Draft.

Note: The Browns own the Bills first-round selection after Buffalo traded up with Cleveland last year to select Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Height: 6'4
Weight:219
Hometown: Honolulu, Hi.
College: Oregon
Class: 2014 JR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 7
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Lovie Smith
2014 Record: 2-11

ANALYSIS: Tamp Bay was born in 1976 and has yet to have a sustained franchise quarterback. They had Doug Williams (five years) and even Steve Young (two years) prior to his days in San Fran. The Bucs drafted guys like Vinny Testaverde No. 1 overall and Trent Dilfer at No. 6. In all, they have started 37 different quarterbacks over the past 38 seasons. Do they grab a quarterback with the top overall pick when they have huge holes on the offensive line and are in desperate need for a pass rusher? They can’t pass on Marcus Mariota, who they hope to be the Bucs first franchise’s signal caller.

Tennessee Titans

Height: 6'6
Weight:240
Hometown: Fishers, Ind.
College: Nebraska
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 16
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Ken Whisenhunt
2014 Record: 2-11

ANALYSIS: There’s no question that the Titans could go Jameis Winston. What’s their long term feeling about Zach Mettenberger? Do they give up on Jake Locker? Do they take a chance on the signal caller that can’t stay out of trouble from Tallahassee? It’s going to be a tough call for any franchise with Winston sitting there for the taking. They could also go another route and get the top pass rusher on the board in Nebraska’s Randy Gregory. He could help their pass rush out of the gate. He also brings some real scheme versatility.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Height: 6'5
Weight:295
Hometown: Daytona Beach, Fla.
College: USC
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 1
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Gus Bradley
2014 Record: 2-11

ANALYSIS: The Jags continue to build up their defense and grab defensive lineman Leonard Williams from Southern Cal. He's a big time talent who's physical and versatile. Gus Bradley can work him in the lineup in a variety of ways in Jacksonville.

New York Jets

Height: 6'4
Weight:230
Hometown: Bessemer, Ala.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 SO
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Rex Ryan
2014 Record: 2-11

ANALYSIS: To mock draft this early is difficult and the Jets only make things harder. It's highly likely coach Rex Ryan is gone and maybe even general manager John Idzik. That being said it's unclear what direction the new regime will go so I have to go quarterback here knowing it will be hard to move forward as a franchise with Geno Smith at the helm. I know Winston has off the field question marks but his on the field play was stellar in Tallahassee.

Oakland Raiders

Player: Amari Cooper
Height: 6'1
Weight:210
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 2
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Tony Sparano
2014 Record: 2-11

ANALYSIS: Derek Carr has been sneaky good for most of the season as a rookie quarterback for the Raiders. Now they have to provide him some firepower on the perimeter. The draft's top wide receiver is Alabama's Amari Cooper. No. 5 may be a little rich for this talent from Miami Northwestern but Oakland has to add more offensive weapons.

Washington Redskins

Player: Andrus Peat
Height: 6'7
Weight:316
Hometown: Chandler, Az.
College: Stanford
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 29
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Jay Gruden
2014 Record: 3-10

ANALYSIS: Assuming RG3 is still the franchise quarterback for the Redskins then you have to keep him upright and healthy. That means building up the offensive front. Washington could decide among all the offensive line prospects. Here I go with the guy I believe fits the best - Andrus Peat from Stanford. This is a very big and athletic tackle that just needs some refinement.

7
New York Giants

Player: Shane Ray
Height: 6'3
Weight:245
Hometown: Kansas City, Mo.
College: Missouri
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 13
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
2014 Record: 4-9

ANALYSIS: Ah, it’s time for the G-men to go for a pass rusher and they get an athlete I love on the edge in Missouri's Shane Ray. It was his time for the Tigers in 2014 and boy did he shine into one of the college game's top pass rushers.

RND 1
8
Carolina Panthers

Height: 6'5
Weight:320
Hometown: Denison, Ia.
College: Iowa
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 4
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Ron Rivera
2014 Record: 4-8-1

ANALYSIS: It could be very tempting for the Panthers to go for some defensive help here or perhaps even take a shot with running back Todd Gurley but they need to continue to address their offensive front and protect their guy Cam Newton. Brandon Scherff has been terrific for the Hawkeyes. He’s old school, tough, nasty and versatile. He could play tackle or slide inside to guard.

RND 1
9
Chicago Bears

Height: 6'1
Weight:228
Hometown: Sacramento, Calif.
College: Washington
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 39
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Marc Trestman
2014 Record: 5-8

ANALYSIS: I could see the Bears go defensive end here and land a good pass rusher. But they will also have an opportunity to land one of the top defensive athletes in this draft in Shaq Thompson. This former running back and safety is a linebacker that can fly to the football. His game translates so well in today’s NFL and Chicago needs help at this position.

RND 1
10
New Orleans Saints

Player: Vic Beasley
Height: 6'3
Weight:285
Hometown: Adairsville, Ga.
College: Clemson
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 10
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2014 Record: 5-8

ANALYSIS: Beasley has been big time the past two seasons at Clemson. In fact, had he elected to go out last year Beasley would have most likely been a top 15 pick. The Saints need help on defense, specifically getting after the quarterback and that's what Beasley does best.

RND 1
11
Minnesota Vikings

Height: 6'0
Weight:222
Hometown: Geismar, La.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 24
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
2014 Record: 6-7

ANALYSIS: The Vikings could go a number of different directions and address linebacker, wide receiver or even the offensive front. They could even be a wildcard and snag running back Todd Gurley. But Landon Collins is the clear cut top safety in this draft who should be a plug and play guy in their secondary. He’s active in run support and good in coverage. I have watched this kid since his junior season at Geismar (La.) Dutchtown high school – Collins is a bona fide big time, playmaking safety. He has been awesome this season for the Crimson Tide.

RND 1
12
St. Louis Rams

Player: Todd Gurley
Height: 6'1
Weight:226
Hometown: Tarboro, N.C.
College: Georgia
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 12
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2014 Record: 6-7

ANALYSIS: I could see the Rams go offensive line here. But would they pass on a talent like Todd Gurley? A powerful run game with this running back from Georgia would certainly change the dynamics of St. Louis's offense in that grind out division with Arizona, Seattle and San Francisco.

RND 1
13
Houston Texans

Height: 6'5
Weight:305
Hometown: Allen, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 85
Pos Rank: 9

Head Coach: Bill O'Brien
2014 Record: 7-6

ANALYSIS: There’s no question that Texans coach Billy O’Brien could go quarterback here. Then again, at this spot they could end up reaching on someone. Why not bolster the offensive front by adding this outstanding tackle from Texas A&M here in Cedric Ogbuehi? He would mark the third straight year an Aggie at tackle was picked in the first round.

14
Cleveland Browns

Height: 6'5
Weight:321
Hometown: Baton Rouge, La.
College: LSU
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OG
Rating:
Overall Rank: 18
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2014 Record: 7-6

ANALYSIS: The Browns new regime love athletic and versatile players, especially guys that can play more than one position. As they continue to re-build their offensive line Cleveland grabs LSU's La'El Collins, a player that can play guard or tackle.

RND 1
15
San Francisco 49ers

Player: Shawn Oakman
Height: 6'9
Weight:280
Hometown: Landsdowne, Pa.
College: Baylor
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: NR
Pos Rank:

Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh
2014 Record: 7-6

ANALYSIS: I could certainly see this franchise going cornerback here or even wide receiver. But Baylor's Shawn Oakman has to be one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft. He's a huge defensive end with a lot of upside.

Cleveland Browns

Height: 6'5

Hometown: Tunica, Miss.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: MLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 75
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2014 Record: 7-6

ANALYSIS: Here's another outstanding athlete with versatility for the Browns in Benardrick McKinney. He's a guy that can play inside and out in the Cleveland defense. He had an outstanding 2014 campaign for Mississippi State.

RND 1
17
Miami Dolphins

Height: 6'1

Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
College: Wisconsin
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 15
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Joe Philbin
2014 Record: 7-6

ANALYSIS: I have two running backs going in the top 17 spots because I feel Gurley and Melvin Gordon are that good. Gordon to Miami could give the Dolphins a huge boost offensively as quarterback Ryan Tannehill continues his development as a quarterback.

RND 1
18
Kansas City Chiefs

Player: Kevin White
Height: 6'3
Weight:209
Hometown: Plainfield, N.J.
College: West Virginia
Class: 2014 SR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 14
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Andy Reid
2014 Record: 7-6

ANALYSIS: White has taken college football by storm and is having an outstanding season for West Virginia. This kid has good size and very good speed. And he makes big play after big play for the Mountaineers in their spread attack. Andy Reid and Kansas City have to address this position and get help on the perimeter for Alex Smith and this offense. KC has yet to throw a touchdown pass to a receiver. That's one of the most unbelievable stats of the NFL season.

College: Florida
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 3
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
2014 Record: 8-5

ANALYSIS: The Ravens are always a wildcard and I could see them drafting Gordon or Gurley if available here. I could also see Ozzie Newsome going for an athletic and disruptive player like Dante Fowler to bolster his Baltimore defense.

Dallas Cowboys

Height: 6'0

College: Washington
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 9
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jason Garrett
2014 Record: 9-4

ANALYSIS: It's safe to assume that at this point Marcus Peters is the top cornerback in this draft. Having said that how much will his dismissal from the Huskies hurt his stock? It won't with Jerry Jones and Dallas.

RND 1
21
Atlanta Falcons

Height: 6'5
Weight:256
Hometown: Middletown, N.J.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: NR
Pos Rank:

Head Coach: Mike Smith
2014 Record: 5-8

ANALYSIS: For the second straight season this Falcons team has been plagued by injuries. Even when healthy Atlanta has to improve their pass rush. If they are picking here and Shilique Calhoun is available they have to go this route and help this side of the ball.

RND 1
22
Pittsburgh Steelers

Height: 6'0
Weight:196
Hometown: Ocala, Fla.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 52
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
2014 Record: 8-5

ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh needs to address the secondary and here they get a good sized, physical and athletic cornerback in P.J. Williams from Florida State. He looks like a good fit in the Steeler secondary.

RND 1
23
San Diego Chargers

Player: Trae Waynes
Height: 6'1
Weight:182
Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 6
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike McCoy
2014 Record: 8-5

ANALYSIS: In the end I went cornerback for San Diego because you can never have enough. I could certainly see the Chargers go in another direction but why not this position, especially when you encounter Peyton Manning twice a season and everything right now goes through the Mile High city? Waynes could press for top cornerback honors in this draft before it's all said and done.

Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 74
Pos Rank: 11

Head Coach: Jim Caldwell
2014 Record: 9-4

ANALYSIS: Ronald Darby is a cornerback with a ton of speed and athleticism. The Lions certainly need help at this position.

College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 51
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Marvin Lewis
2014 Record: 8-4-1

ANALYSIS: Cincinnati is another hard team to project but then again it will be hard for the Bengals to pass on a guy like Goldman. He's finally playing like the high school All-American he was a few years ago. Goldman would be a nice addition to the Cincy front.

Pos Rank: 15

Head Coach: Chip Kelly
2014 Record: 9-4

ANALYSIS: Chip Kelly knows Ifo Ekpre-Olomu better than anyone and they also need defensive backs. He will give Philadelphia a huge boost in the secondary as the Eagles need cornerback help.

Head Coach: Pete Carroll
2014 Record: 9-4

ANALYSIS: Floyd is having a big year in Athens. While he’s far from a finished product Floyd is a versatile outside linebacker that can be very effective against the run and pass. He can play in space, he can drop in coverage and he can get after the quarterback. Floyd will need some time to develop and bulk up but his upside is as good as anyone on this side of the ball in this draft.

Head Coach: Bill Belichick
2014 Record: 10-3

ANALYSIS: I could see Cam Irving becoming one of the hottest players in the draft this spring because of his versatility. I projected him as a first round tackle last year. He came back this season and play center for Florida State. These are the kind of players that the Patriots love.
