Senior Bowl rosters near 100

The Senior Bowl rosters are up to 97 players after 11 more were announced as accepting invitations this week.

The Senior Bowl added 11 players to its North and South rosters for the January all-star game, headed by Alabama quarterback Blake Sims.

Heading into the College Football Playoff, Sims had already broken the school record for single-season passing yards (3,250) and has 26 touchdown tosses. Phil Savage, the executive director of the Senior Bowl, said Sims wasn’t part of the initial August watch list for the offseason’s biggest all-star game but played his way into an invitation.

Also added was Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate until injuries slowed him late in the 2014 schedule. He still finished as a first-team All-Big Ten selection after rushing for 1,523 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.

Also among the notable additions was Florida State WR Rashad Greene, who finished as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (264) and receiving yards (3,771) to earn All-ACC first-team honors.

The additions announced earlier this week bring the total number of accepted invites for the 2015 Senior Bowl to 97. Practices are scheduled to begin on Jan. 20 with the game at 3 p.m. Central Time on Jan. 24 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
