2015 NFL Mock Draft 4.0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have earned the top pick in the draft for the fifth time in their franchise history. They are now officially on the clock.

Here is a Mock Draft based on where teams currently fall in the draft order. College players won’t have to declare for the draft until January 15, so the player pool considered here are all the guys who are red-shirt sophomores and older. Here is a running list of the underclassmen that have declared for the NFL Draft.

Note: The Browns own the Bills first-round selection after Buffalo traded up with Cleveland last year to select Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Height: 6'4
Weight:219
Hometown: Honolulu, Hi.
College: Oregon
Class: 2014 JR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 7
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Lovie Smith
2014 Record: 2-14

ANALYSIS: For the fifth time in franchise history Tamp Bay has the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. This is a team that began in 1976 and has yet to have a sustained franchise quarterback. In all, they have started 37 different quarterbacks over the past 38 seasons. Do they grab a quarterback with the top overall pick when they have huge holes on the offensive line and are in desperate need for a pass rusher? In a quarterback driven league the Bucs have to go get their guy and decide between Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston. While Winston may be the better pro QB prospect I see Lovie Smith and Tampa Bay going the safer route with Mariota.

Tennessee Titans

Height: 6'4
Weight:230
Hometown: Bessemer, Ala.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 SO
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Ken Whisenhunt
2014 Record: 2-14

ANALYSIS: I am sticking with the Titans taking Winston here. He's a star on the field and has yet to lose a college game. Last year's Heisman Trophy winner, Winston has shined this season when FSU needed him the most. How will his off the field issues hurt his draft stock? Winston will certainly come under more pre-draft scrutiny than other prospect before him.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Height: 6'5
Weight:295
Hometown: Daytona Beach, Fla.
College: USC
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 1
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Gus Bradley
2014 Record: 3-13

ANALYSIS: The Jags continue to build up their defense and grab defensive lineman Leonard Williams from Southern Cal. He's a big time talent who's physical and versatile. Gus Bradley can work him in the lineup in a variety of ways in Jacksonville. Right now I think he's the top non-quarterback in this draft.

Oakland Raiders

Height: 6'6
Weight:240
Hometown: Fishers, Ind.
College: Nebraska
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 16
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Tony Sparano
2014 Record: 3-13

ANALYSIS: I am a huge Amari Cooper fan. In fact I have been since I first saw him play four years ago in high school. However, I think picking in the No. 4 hole may be a tad high for this Alabama wide receiver. Oakland hit a home run last May with the selection of Khalil Mack. Here they find a pass rushing, athletic defensive end to pair with him in Randy Gregory from Nebraska. The two should work very well together.

RND 1
5
Washington Redskins

Player: Andrus Peat
Height: 6'7
Weight:316
Hometown: Chandler, Az.
College: Stanford
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 29
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Jay Gruden
2014 Record: 3-13

ANALYSIS: Assuming RG3 is still the franchise quarterback for the Redskins then you have to keep him upright and healthy. That means building up the offensive front. Washington could decide among all the offensive line prospects. Here I go with the guy I believe fits the best - Andrus Peat from Stanford. This is a very big and athletic tackle that just needs some refinement. Much will depend on who's making the calls in D.C. Will it be this regime or another new one for the Redskins?

RND 1
6
New York Jets

Player: Amari Cooper
Height: 6'1
Weight:210
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 2
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach:
2014 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: Yesterday, the Jets cleaned house and are currently looking for a new head coach and general manager. This New York franchise is a mess, especially offensively and could go in a number of directions. They could trade up for a quarterback, draft Amari Cooper or address their front. They also need help on the other side of the ball at a few different spots. In this mock they just grab the best player on the board in Cooper.

RND 1
7
Chicago Bears

Player: Vic Beasley
Height: 6'3
Weight:285
Hometown: Adairsville, Ga.
College: Clemson
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 10
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach:
2014 Record: 5-11

ANALYSIS: Hard to mock the Bears pick when you don't even know the staff and schemes that will be employed by the new regime after yesterday’s firing of coach Marc Trestman and G.M. Phil Emery. Earlier this month I had the Bears picking linebacker Shaq Thompson from Washington. The Bears need linebacker help as well as a pass rusher (or two) and help in the secondary at safety. Landon Collins could certainly be an option. But a good pass rush helps out the back end so Chicago goes with Vic Beasley here. He has been one of the best players in the ACC over the past two seasons.

RND 1
8
Atlanta Falcons

Player: Shane Ray
Height: 6'3
Weight:245
Hometown: Kansas City, Mo.
College: Missouri
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 13
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: 0
2014 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: With Mike Smith gone where will the Falcons look in this draft? Regardless of the next coach Atlanta will still need to find a pass rusher. There are plenty of possibilities at No. 7. Shane Ray from Missouri gets the nod here over guys like Dante Fowler, Shilique Calhoun, and others. Ray had a big season for the Tigers and is an explosive guy on the edge with size and speed.

RND 1
9
New York Giants

Player: Dante Fowler
Height: 6'3
Weight:277
Hometown: St. Petersburg, Fla.
College: Florida
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 3
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
2014 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: Last week I had the Giants drafting Ray but he's gone to the team just ahead of New York. The Giants stick with a pass rusher here and go with the dynamic and versatile Dante Fowler. I once saw him in a high school game play quarterback, running back, full back, tight end, wide receiver and all over the defensive front. Yeah, he’s pretty darn athletic.

RND 1
10
St. Louis Rams

Player: Todd Gurley
Height: 6'1
Weight:226
Hometown: Tarboro, N.C.
College: Georgia
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 12
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach:
2014 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: I could see the Rams go offensive line here. But would they pass on a talent like Todd Gurley? A powerful run game with this running back from Georgia would certainly change the dynamics of St. Louis's offense in that grind out division with Arizona, Seattle and San Francisco. I know they like Tre Mason but...

RND 1
11
Minnesota Vikings

Height: 6'5
Weight:320
Hometown: Denison, Ia.
College: Iowa
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 4
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Vikings could go a number of different directions and address linebacker, wide receiver or even the offensive front. That’s the pick here with Brandon Schreff. He could be this draft’s Zack Martin and a player that could swing outside and in at both tackle and guard.

RND 1
12
Cleveland Browns

Height: 6'2
Weight:340
Hometown: Auburn, Wa
College: Washington
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: Cleveland has to continue to address their defense, specifically their run defense. Shelton will give them a huge inside presence and anchor in the middle.

RND 1
13
New Orleans Saints

Player: Trae Waynes
Height: 6'1
Weight:182
Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 6
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Saints could very well go for a pass rusher here or even offensive line. But they could also have their pick at cornerback. The call is for Michigan State standout Traw Waynes. He will give New Orleans a needed boost at the corner position. He has good size and length.

RND 1
14
Miami Dolphins

Height: 6'5
Weight:321
Hometown: Baton Rouge, La.
College: LSU
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OG
Rating:
Overall Rank: 18
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Joe Philbin
2014 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I had running back Melvin Gordon to Miami earlier this month. I would stick with that but La'El Collins is available to the Dolphins. He's a powerful and versatile offensive lineman that can play right tackle or guard.

RND 1
15
San Francisco 49ers

Player: Shawn Oakman
Height: 6'9
Weight:280
Hometown: Landsdowne, Pa.
College: Baylor
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: NR
Pos Rank:

Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh
2014 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I could certainly see this franchise going cornerback here or even wide receiver. But Baylor's Shawn Oakman has to be one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft. He's a huge defensive end with a lot of upside.

RND 1
16
Houston Texans

Player: Kevin White
Height: 6'3
Weight:209
Hometown: Plainfield, N.J.
College: West Virginia
Class: 2014 SR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 14
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Bill O'Brien
2014 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: There’s no question that Texans coach Billy O’Brien could go quarterback here. Then again, that would be a reach. Andre Johnson will not be playing forever. In this mock wide receiver Kevin White goes to Houston.

RND 1
17
San Diego Chargers

Height: 6'1
Weight:213
Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
College: Wisconsin
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 15
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike McCoy
2014 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: In this mock Melvin Gordon is still on the board. San Diego can't pass on this outstanding Wisconsin running back. Phillip Rivers will finally get some much needed help from their run game. I think there are two first round backs in this draft and this kid is one of them.

RND 1
18
Kansas City Chiefs

Height: 6'3
Weight:215
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pa.
College: Arizona State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 25
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Andy Reid
2014 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: Andy Reid and the Chiefs have to go get some firepower on the perimter. Here, KC grabs another wideout in Sun Devils standout Jaleen Strong. He's a big target who has a knack for making very big plays, something Kansas City is sorely missing from their current wide receiver unit.

RND 1
19
Cleveland Browns

Height: 6'5
Weight:249
Hometown: Tunica, Miss.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: MLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 75
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: Here's another outstanding athlete with versatility for the Browns in Benardrick McKinney. He's a guy that can play inside and out in the Cleveland defense. He had an outstanding 2014 campaign for Mississippi State.

RND 1
20
Philadelphia Eagles

Height: 6'1
Weight:228
Hometown: Sacramento, Calif.
College: Washington
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 39
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Chip Kelly
2014 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: I had the Eagles go cornerback here last week but Shaq Thompson was already long gone. He's not in this mock draft and this is an absolute steal for Chip Kelly's defense. Philadelphia just filled a need with an outstanding athlete with tremendous speed and versatility.

RND 1
21
Carolina Panthers

Height: 6'5
Weight:305
Hometown: Allen, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 85
Pos Rank: 9

Head Coach: Ron Rivera
2014 Record: 7-8-1

ANALYSIS: It could be very tempting for the Panthers to go for some defensive help here or perhaps even take a shot with running back Todd Gurley but they need to continue to address their offensive front and protect their guy Cam Newton. I had them pickig Schreff last week but he's gone already in this mock. This time Carolina drafts offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi from Texas A&M. He has as much upside as an OL in this draft.

RND 1
22
Baltimore Ravens

Player: Alvin Dupree
Height: 6'4
Weight:264
Hometown: Irwinton, Ga.
College: Kentucky
Class: 2014 SR
Position: TE
Rating:
Overall Rank:
Pos Rank:

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
2014 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: If the Ravens go looking to address their pass rush this is a guy that could very well be available. Dupree has good size and athleticism and he had a terrific season in Lexington for the the Kentucky Wildcats.

RND 1
23
Cincinnati Bengals

Height: 6'0
Weight:222
Hometown: Geismar, La.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 24
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Marvin Lewis
2014 Record: 10-5-1

ANALYSIS: Cincinnati is another hard team to project but then again it will be hard for the Bengals to pass on a guy like Landon Collins. He's the top safety in the draft and would be a steal here.

RND 1
24
Pittsburgh Steelers

Height: 6'0
Weight:196
Hometown: Ocala, Fla.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 52
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh needs to address the secondary and here they get a good sized, physical and athletic cornerback in P.J. Williams from Florida State. He looks like a good fit in the Steeler secondary.

RND 1
25
Detroit Lions

Height: 6'4
Weight:314
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 51
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Jim Caldwell
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: The Lions could go cornerback here or even address the offensive front. But instead they go and get Eddie Goldman from FSU. He’s a talented defensive tackle that will help bolster that stout defense.

RND 1
26
Indianapolis Colts

Player: Cam Erving
Height: 6'6
Weight:308
Hometown: Moultrie, Ga.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: C
Rating:
Overall Rank: 31
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Chuck Pagano
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: Indy would love to address their pass rush but with the primary guys off the board here the Colts will turn their attention to their offensive front and protecting Andrew Luck. I had Cameron Erving projected as a first rounder last season. He's a tackle that moved to center this season in Tallahassee and had a great season for the Seminoles.

RND 1
27
Arizona Cardinals

Height: 6'3
Weight:246
Hometown: Hau'ula, Hi.
College: Washington
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 103
Pos Rank: 10

Head Coach: Bruce Arians
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: Kikaha finished with 35 career sacks including 18 this past season. He's big, athletic and versatile and would fit right into the Arizona defense.

RND 1
28
Dallas Cowboys

Height: 6'0
Weight:190
Hometown: Oakland, Calif.
College: Washington
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 9
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jason Garrett
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: It's safe to assume that at this point Marcus Peters is arguably the top cornerback in this draft. Having said that how much will his dismissal from the Huskies hurt his stock? It won't with Jerry Jones and Dallas.

RND 1
29
Green Bay Packers

Height: 6'5
Weight:256
Hometown: Middletown, N.J.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: NR
Pos Rank:

Head Coach: Mike McCarthy
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: The Packers could go a number of different ways. They could certainly address the offensive line here but they also need to rev up their pass rush. Calhoun is still on the board from Michigan State.

RND 1
30
Denver Broncos

Height: 6'6
Weight:324
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
College: Miami
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 23
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: John Fox
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: You have to protect your aging quarterback Peyton Manning. Flowers is a talented player that's moving up the draft charts. He's very talented but needs more refinement.

RND 1
31
New England Patriots

Height: 6'2
Weight:320
Hometown: Brenham, Texas
College: Texas
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 193
Pos Rank: 17

Head Coach: Bill Belichick
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: The Patriots could go offensive line or even wide receiver or tight end here. But they could also address a big need on the defensive front. I don't think they would pass on the big and athletic defensive tackle Danny Shelton from Washington if he were available here.

RND 1
32
Seattle Seahawks

Height: 6'6
Weight:225
Hometown: St. Louis, Mo.
College: Oklahoma
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 20
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Pete Carroll
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: Pete Carroll and the Seahawks land a big and talented wide receiver in DGB. He didn't play this past season but has everything you look for to be a No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL.
