2015 NFL Mock Draft 12.0

With the NFL Draft a little over a month away, National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Newberg reveals his latest mock. There was movement: a little at the top and plenty at the bottom. Which wide receiver goes first off the board? Find out here.

Here's my Mock Draft 12.0 following another week of NFL free agency. The NFL Draft is now 38 days away.

Of course Tampa Bay is on the clock.

This draft is dominated by underclassmen listed here.

Note: The Browns own the Bills first-round selection after Buffalo traded up with Cleveland last year to select wide receiver Sammy Watkins. New Orleans just obtained Seattle's first round pick (No. 31) in the Jimmy Graham trade.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Height: 6'4
Weight:231
Hometown: Bessemer, Ala.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 SO
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Lovie Smith
2014 Record: 2-14

ANALYSIS: The Bucs will select one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft. Rumors have them favoring Jameis Winston over Marcus Mariota at this point. Still, there 38 days left until draft day and anything is possible, as Tampa Bay will explore all their options. In terms of free agency, the Bucs have landed inside linebacker Bruce Carter, safeties Chris Conte and Sterling Moore and defensive lineman Henry Melton. No doubt they have bolstered their defense with players familiar with Lovie Smith’s defensive system. They still need in desperate need of a pass rusher and offensive linemen. Still, with that first pick, the Bucs have to find their franchise quarterback and I would still lean towards the more ready Winston.

Tennessee Titans

Height: 6'4
Weight:222
Hometown: Honolulu, Hi.
College: Oregon
Class: 2014 JR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 7
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Ken Whisenhunt
2014 Record: 2-14

ANALYSIS: The Titans are going to be one of the true wild cards in this draft, as their choice will have a huge impact behind them. They could select a quarterback, pick their favorite pass rusher or trade down and out of the spot. There have been reports that they are happy and confident moving forward with QB Zach Mettenberger. That’s gutsy considering what little he has produced in one year in the NFL. I find it hard to believe they would turn away from a signal caller like Marcus Mariota. It’s my contention they draft the former Oregon Duck or trade out of the spot to someone that wants him and grab extra picks. It also helps that the Titans landed outside linebacker Brian Orakpo via free agency on Friday. He should be a great fit and could make huge impact for Dick LeBeau’s defense in Nashville. Tennessee also resigned defensive end Derrick Morgan. Leonard Williams would be the ideal pick here if they feel really good about Mettenberger.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Player: Dante Fowler
Height: 6'3
Weight:261
Hometown: St. Petersburg, Fla.
College: Florida
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 3
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Gus Bradley
2014 Record: 3-13

ANALYSIS: Could the signing of defensive lineman Jared Odrick alter the player selection of Jacksonville’s first pick? Certainly USC’s Leonard Williams could be pegged at their spot, assuming he’s still on the board. But the Jaguars just signed a quality free agent Odrick on Tuesday. Now they could go after arguably one of the most versatile edge guys in this draft in former Gator defensive end Dante Fowler. I would imagine it would be so hard to pass on Williams but Fowler would give the Jags the pass rusher they really need. Odrick was among several big signees via free agency, as Gus Bradley and Jacksonville have to be super excited to also bring on board players like tight end Julius Thomas and offensive tackle Jeremy Pernell.

Oakland Raiders

Height: 6'5
Weight:302
Hometown: Daytona Beach, Fla.
College: USC
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 1
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jack Del Rio
2014 Record: 3-13

ANALYSIS: I love what the Raiders have done this week – landing center Rodney Hudson, defensive tackle Dan Williams, outside linebacker Malcolm Smith and safety Nate Allen. Last season they did well in the draft, especially with their top selection in linebacker Khalil Mack. While so many have Oakland pegged to land a wide receiver like Amari Cooper or Kevin White, I simply don’t see Reggie McKenzie or Jack Del Rio passing on Leonard Williams from USC if he’s still on the board. Williams is from California and dreamed of playing for the silver and black. Plus, he may be the top overall prospect in this draft and would bring a huge presence to their defensive front. The Raiders could also trade out of the spot and move back in hopes of obtaining more picks and drafting a wide receiver.

Washington Redskins

Player: Shane Ray
Height: 6'3
Weight:245
Hometown: Kansas City, Mo.
College: Missouri
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 13
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jay Gruden
2014 Record: 3-13

ANALYSIS: Here's another team that could go in two different directions, addressing the offensive or defensive front. The Redskins need to protect RG3 better and would have their pick of tackles. I had Stanford's Andrus Peat penciled in at this spot a few times. But now I have Washington addressing their pass rush by nabbing Missouri's Shane Ray here, especially after losing Brian Orakpo in free agency.. Defensive tackles Terrance Knighton and Stephen Paea inked with Washington as well as cornerback Chris Culliver. This unit has to get better.

New York Jets

Player: Amari Cooper
Height: 6'1
Weight:211
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 2
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Todd Bowles
2014 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Jets have had a big month and you have to love what they have done. New York brought back cornerback Darrelle Revis, traded for wide receiver Brandon Marshall and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, and signed guard James Carpenter and cornerback Buster Skrine. That’s an improved roster in just a few days with the draft looming seven weeks away. This now gives the Jets flexibility to go and get the best available player or even trade out of the spot to get more picks. Staying here I like Amari Cooper. To me, he’s the best receiver in this class and should provide an immediate impact on this Jets offense.

Chicago Bears

Player: Vic Beasley
Height: 6'3
Weight:246
Hometown: Adairsville, Ga.
College: Clemson
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 10
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: John Fox
2014 Record: 5-11

ANALYSIS: John Fox could ultimately decide here between an inside anchor or an outside pass rusher in nose guard Danny Shelton and outside linebacker Vic Beasley. I am leaning toward the pass rusher, especially considering the production of Beasley at Clemson coupled with his outstanding performance at the Combine after putting on 15-pounds. The Bears already are getting some defensive help with the signing of Pernell McPhee.

RND 1
8
Atlanta Falcons

Player: Alvin Dupree
Height: 6'4
Weight:269
Hometown: Irwinton, Ga.
College: Kentucky
Class: 2014 SR
Position: TE
Rating:
Overall Rank:
Pos Rank:

Head Coach: Dan Quinn
2014 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: New Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn has to address their defensive front and in this spot there are still some nice options but it all depends on what happens in front of the Falcons. In this mock scenario Alvin Dupree is the call. He's freaky athletically and put up outstanding numbers at the Combine and had just as an impressive pro-day in Lexington. He’s the type of versatile athlete that would fits so well in this scheme.

RND 1
9
New York Giants

Height: 6'5
Weight:235
Hometown: Fishers, Ind.
College: Nebraska
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 16
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
2014 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: The Giants could go offensive or defensive front. I am betting on the later, especially if Randy Gregory is still out there. This former Nebraska star needs to bulk up and he certainly has the size to do so. He’s freaky athletic and could bolster the New York pass rush in time. Gregory has tremendous upside.

RND 1
10
St. Louis Rams

Height: 6'5
Weight:319
Hometown: Denison, Ia.
College: Iowa
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 4
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2014 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: The Rams will have a new quarterback in 2015 and his name is Nick Foles. St. Louis traded Sam Bradford to Philadelphia for this signal caller. It seems as though this franchise is a quarterback away from being really darn good. Bradford has been hurt for the past two seasons but Foles has had a bit of the injury bug as well. The Rams could go for wide receiver here like Kevin White from West Virginia or perhaps a true offensive tackle like La'el Collins. But there's also Brandon Scherff, who could be this year's Zack Martin. Scherff may have more long term upside at guard but should have the versatility to play anywhere on the offensive line. The Rams also nabbed two players through free agency in defensive tackle Nick Fairley and pass rusher Akeem Ayers. This defense should be scary good.

RND 1
11
Minnesota Vikings

Player: Trae Waynes
Height: 6'1
Weight:182
Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 6
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: I have had Trae Waynes to Minnesota in most of my mock drafts and I am sticking to it. I just wonder if this former Michigan State star drops to No. 11? I have my doubts but if he’s there for the Vikings this would be a terrific landing spot. Waynes is the top cornerback in this class and is coming off an outstanding Combine and pro day. There are many who feel that the Vikings could go wide receiver with this pick. Minnesota just traded for the speedy and expensive wideout Mike Wallace. Could you imagine pairing him with Kevin White, Devante Parker or another elite receiver in this class? I think the Vikings could big up a good player at this position in rounds two or three.

Cleveland Browns

Height: 6'2
Weight:339
Hometown: Auburn, Wa
College: Washington
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: What do the Browns do? They need a quarterback. Cleveland needs weapons at wide receiver and could use a right tackle. They also need an anchor in the middle of the defense. None are better in this draft than Danny Shelton. He's the call, as the Browns are building a championship defense. Heck, they would be lucky if Shelton were still available here. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Chicago take him at No. 7 or a 3-4 team trade ahead of Cleveland to nab him.

RND 1

New Orleans Saints

Player: Kevin White
Height: 6'3
Weight:215
Hometown: Plainfield, N.J.
College: West Virginia
Class: 2014 SR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 14
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Saints and Seahawks pulled off a massive trade with Seattle getting tight end Jimmy Graham and the New Orleans getting center Max Unger. In addition, the Saints also obtained the Seahawks No. 1 pick. New Orleans also traded wide receiver Kenny Stills. Graham is a huge loss and where will the Saints go here? They still need a pass rusher but there’s been a huge run to this point. New Orleans gets some fire power on the perimeter here with wide receiver Kevin White still out there. He gets the call here. The Saints will address defense with their other first round selection. Running back C.J. Spiller was also signed by New Orleans and I expect him to be a huge get for Drew Brees and that offense as well.

RND 1
14
Miami Dolphins

Height: 6'3
Weight:209
Hometown: Louisville, Ky.
College: Louisville
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 5
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Joe Philbin
2014 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: The Dolphins made a huge splash in free agency by giving Ndamukuong Suh the largest defensive contract ever. Miami’s defense just got that much better with the signing of Suh. They could further address this side of the ball and go cornerback here. Miami could also go offensive front here. But I like the fish to grab a big outside target at wide receiver in DeVante Parker. Pairing him with Jarvis Landry would give Ryan Tannehill two outstanding young targets in addition to Kenny Stills, who they obtained via trade.

San Francisco 49ers

Height: 6'0
Weight:197
Hometown: Oakland, Calif.
College: Washington
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 9
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jim Tomsula
2014 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: San Fran has lost a lot of late. First it was coach Jim Harbaugh. Over the past few weekss linebacker Patrick Willis retired and the 49ers have lost guard Mike Iupati, cornerbacks Chris Cook and Chris Culliver, wide receiver Michael Crabtree and running back Frank Gore all to free agency. Then first year linebacker Chris Borland retired. They could go in a number of different directions from pass rusher, to linebacker, to cornerback, offensive line or wide receiver. They added wide receiver Torrey Smith via free agency. Here, they go with the talented but troubled cornerback Marcus Peters from Washington. He’s a really good prospect that would fill a big need on the 49ers back end.

Houston Texans

Height: 6'6
Weight:237
Hometown: St. Louis, Mo.
College: Oklahoma
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 20
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Bill O'Brien
2014 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: I could see the Texans going running back or even the offensive front here. Safety Landon Collins in still on the board. So too are a handful of linemen. Houston opts for the wide receiver from Oklahoma, although Dorial Green-Beckham never played a down for the Sooners. He did light up the SEC while at Missouri. DGB is so big and so talented.

San Diego Chargers

Height: 6'1

Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
College: Wisconsin
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 15
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Mike McCoy
2014 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: I am sticking with the Chargers and Melvin Gordon here. Can you imagine what this Wisconsin running back could do for Phillip Rivers and the San Diego offense? Plus, the Chargers lost Ryan Matthews in free agency.

RND 1
18
Kansas City Chiefs

Height: 6'4
Weight:305
Hometown: Baton Rouge, La.
College: LSU
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OG
Rating:
Overall Rank: 18
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Andy Reid
2014 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: The Chiefs landed a good receiver in free agency, as Andy Reid is reunited with Jeremy Maclin, who he drafted when he coached the Eagles. Kansas City still needs help at this position but could address it later on in the draft. Safety Landon Collins could very well be an option here but Reid goes the offensive line route and get a really good one in La’el Collins from LSU.

RND 1
19
Cleveland Browns

Height: 6'5
Weight:309
Hometown: Teaneck, N.J.
College: Pitt
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 37
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: Browns fans may go crazy if Cleveland doesn’t draft a wide receiver in the first round with one of their two picks but they opt to reinforce the lines of scrimmage with the picks of Shelton and now T.J. Clemmings at tackle. Brian Hartline will be a quality addition to their wide receiver corps. Cleveland also just signed wideout Dwayne Bowe.

RND 1
20
Philadelphia Eagles

Height: 6'3
Weight:215
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pa.
College: Arizona State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 25
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Chip Kelly
2014 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: What the heck has gotten into Chip Kelly? He guided his team to a 10-win season but they missed the playoffs. This month he traded his starting quarterback away (Nick Foles) to St. Louis for Sam Bradford. He also shipped running back Shady McCoy to Buffalo for inside linebacker Kiko Alonso. The Eagles let Jeremy Maclin go [to KC] via free agency. Philadelphia did get secondary help with the signing of Byron Maxwell this week. Then Philly made a huge splash with the signing NFL offensive MVP in running back DeMarco Murray. They also agreed to terms with another running back in Ryan Matthews. The Eagles need another wide receiver and Kelly likes them bigger. Jaelen Strong from Arizona State is still out there and he gets the call.

RND 1

Cincinnati Bengals

Player: Andrus Peat
Height: 6'7
Weight:313
Hometown: Chandler, Az.
College: Stanford
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 29
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Marvin Lewis
2014 Record: 10-5-1

ANALYSIS: Owa Odighizuwa (Bengals pick in last mock) is one of the quickest off the ball in this draft and a very good pass rusher. But defensive end Michael Johnson re-signed with the Bengals. Cincy should now address the offensive tackle position. They should feel lucky that former Stanford tackle is still on the board.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Height: 6'0

College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 24
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: The Steelers and safety Landon Collins would be a match made in heaven. He’s ideal for their defense and brings a hard hitting mentality and excels against the run. He’s much like the Ravens Matt Elam at the same stage only a little bigger and faster.

RND 1
23
Detroit Lions

Height: 6'4
Weight:336
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 51
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Jim Caldwell
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: Ndamukuong Suh and Nick Fairley are gone because of free agency. In turn, the Lions traded for Haloti Ngata. He will be tremendous addition to the Detroit defensive front though he’s no Suh. The Lions still need help here and could go with a number of different defensive tackles still on the board. I have the next highest rated player here as Eddie Goldman from FSU.

RND 1
24
Arizona Cardinals

Player: Todd Gurley
Height: 6'1
Weight:222
Hometown: Tarboro, N.C.
College: Georgia
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 12
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Bruce Arians
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: The Cardinals took a hit by losing defensive lineman Darnell Dockett but also signed a really good offensive guard in Mike Iupati from San Francisco, along with defensive tackle Corey Peters and linebacker Sean Witherspoon. There are several possibilities here as Arizona could go running back or middle linebacker. But this is the one team that could nab former Georgia running back Todd Gurley. If healthy, he could be one of the elite players from this draft. What would this offense be like with Gurley running the rock?

RND 1
25
Carolina Panthers

Height: 6'6
Weight:329
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
College: Miami
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 23
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Ron Rivera
2014 Record: 7-8-1

ANALYSIS: If one of the first round offensive tackle is still on the board the Panthers will grab him. In this mock scenario that’s the case with former Hurricane Ereck Flowers. This kid has serious upside and fills a huge need in Carolina.

RND 1
26
Baltimore Ravens

Height: 6'1
Weight:203
Hometown: Olive Branch, Miss.
College: LSU
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 64
Pos Rank: 8

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
2014 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: The Ravens lost wide receiver Torrey Smith to the 49ers in free agency. They also lost Pernell McPhee to the Bears. Baltimore could very well go wide receiver or go get a pass rusher. The Ravens could also look to get some secondary help from a terrific cornerback in Jalen Collins from LSU. He’s big and physical and would be a good fit in the Baltimore defense.

RND 1
27
Dallas Cowboys

Height: 6'3
Weight:267
Hometown: Portland, Ore.
College: UCLA
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 38
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Jason Garrett
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: With the loss of Demarco Murray in free agency to their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, would Dallas pass on running back Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon if available? I believe so but in this mock they are both gone. The Cowboys now address their pass rush. Sure they signed Greg Hardy but they need a lot more. Here, Jerry Jones lands former Bruin Owa Odighizuwa. This cat is super quick off the edge.

RND 1

Denver Broncos

Height: 6'7

Hometown: Sacramento, Calif.
College: Oregon
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 17
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Gary Kubiak
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: I love offensive lineman Cameron Erving here but there are still some really good defensive linemen on the board, one of which is Arik Armstead. He could be a huge presence at defensive end in their new look 3-4 defense.

RND 1
29
Indianapolis Colts

Height: 6'5

Hometown: Moultrie, Ga.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: C
Rating:
Overall Rank: 31
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Chuck Pagano
2014 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: The Colts added some huge pieces in free agency with the additions of running back Frank Gore, wide receiver Andre Johnson, defensive tackle Kendall Langford, and pass rusher Trent Cole. Linebacker/safety Shaq Thompson is still out there but with this pick Indy goes offense with the versatile Cameron Erving from Florida State. He can play every position on the offensive front.

Height: 6'2
Weight:319
Hometown: Brenham, Texas
College: Texas
Class: 2014 JR
Position: RB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 193
Pos Rank: 17

Head Coach: Mike McCarthy
2014 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: Green Bay has to be elated to re-sign wide receiver Randall Cobb and tackle Bryan Bulaga. This defense could use another big body in the middle and could be in the mix for a middle linebacker. The Packers could also use some help at cornerback. But they can’t pass on Texas defensive tackle Malcom Brown. He had a terrific year in Austin and should show scheme versatility to help out at multiple positions across the front.

New Orleans Saints

Height: 6'0

College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR

Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2014 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Saints picked up the Seahawks pick here [along with center Max Unger] but they had to give up tight end Jimmy Graham. With the first pick New Orleans grabbed a wide receiver (Kevin White). Here, they go defense, only the elite pass rushers are off the board. So the Saints will turn to the secondaryand draft cornerback P.J. Williams from FSU.
