Kyle Loomis is a tall punter with a solid frame, adequate upper body definition and a solid lower trunk, along with possessing superb hands, making proper adjustments to the off-target snap. He has outstanding leg strength and adjusts to pressure well, along with showing impressive improvising skills when his protection breaks down. He is a two-step kicker with an average of 1.21 in his touch-to-toe mechanics, as he gets excellent rise and turnover behind his kicks.
Loomis has solid control with good hang time (4.42 second average). He shows accuracy placing his attempts inside the 20-yard line and has the large, soft hands needed to field the ball in poor weather conditions. He’s a mentally tough player who is not afraid to run with the ball. He also shows functional aggression getting downfield to lend support for the coverage unit.
You can see his alertness sliding and adjusting his hands to field the high/low snaps effectively and even with his high punting average, those numbers are affected by the high amount of times he was asked to directional kick almost exclusively, cutting down on an already impressive average.
Loomis is capable of hanging the ball high and his hang time average (4.52-5.0 seconds) is the best in this draft class. He is also good at angling his punts towards the sidelines or driving it to pin the opponent inside the 10-yard line. He has also shown the ability to handle the elements well and is never bothered when having to kick in pressure situations.
While Loomis might not have great speed, his agility and quickness in the open field suggests that he can contribute as a tackler in coverage.
