Jason Pierre-Paul will be Celebrating the Fourth of July Differently this Year

There will be no fireworks for the Giants' defensive end this year. Thank goodness.

Jason Pierre-Paul won’t be messing with fireworks this Fourth of July after injuries he sustained last summer.

The 6-foot-5, 278 pound defensive end permanently damaged his right hand and had his right index finger amputated after a fireworks accident last Independence Day, which also damaged his chances at signing a contract extension with the New York Giants.

Pierre-Paul is currently signed to a one-year deal with the Giants. Any further time with New York will depend on his performance this year.

He played in eight games last season, but only recorded one sack, 26 combined tackles, and no forced fumbles as a result of his injuries, compared to his 2014 record of playing in 16 games, 77 combined tackles, 12.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

Pierre-Paul was present at Giants OTAs on Monday.
