Cincinnati Bengals fan starts petition to change name to the Harambes

NFL teams have a long history of having names that honor a part of their city. One fan is trying to do the same for the Cincinnati Bengals.

A fan has launched a petition on change.org to change the Cincinnati Bengals to the Cincinnati Harambes, in honor of the gorilla that was slain at the Cincinnati Zoo after a child fell into its enclosure.

The incident brought about an outpouring of support for Harambe; many believed the gorilla was protecting the three-year-old and not attempting to harm them.

Julian Ortiz of Gilbertsville, Pa, started the petition, which had 7,684 names and counting as of Monday morning.

"The Cleveland Browns named their team after a former coach who made a great impact on their city so why can't the Bengals do it as well in honor of a hero who made an impact on their city too!" Ortiz wrote on the petition's site.
