The Carolina Panthers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 30-20.
Though the Panthers won, Cam Newton expressed his frustration with the game's officiating. He said that the lack of penalty calls from referees are making the game less fun for him as a quarterback and he does not feel protected by the officials.
“I don’t think there’s a person that can go through what I go through and still keep their heads,” he said. “Hits to the head, that’s one thing. But when you’re not protected in the pocket, that’s another thing," Newton said.
Newton said he plans on meeting with Roger Goodall, the NFL commissioner, about how he feels about the game officiation in the NFL.
