We start on defense and much-maligned tackle Albert Means. The travails of Means have been well documented the past two seasons. A big, talented lineman, nothing ever seems to break right for him. That may be changing though as Means is reportedly having a great camp and in the words of one scout, "looks lean and mean," moving into the 2003 season. He also has the advantage of defensive coordinator Joe Lee Dunn, a coach responsible for the development of several highly ranked prospects from Mississippi State the past five years.
Offensively, quarterback Danny Wimprine does not pass the eyeball test but then again, looks can be deceiving. Wimprine has a big league arm and outstanding long-range accuracy, putting the deep ball in front of receivers, then letting them run to the pass. He also does a good job leading the offense and is a signal caller with a nice amount of upside.
Receiver Tavares Gideon displayed flashes of skill in '02 and big things were expected from the large receiver until an injury ended his 2003 season before it even began.
