4 teams have more than $20M in cap dollars to carry over

The NFL Players Association released the amount of salary-cap dollars each team can carry over into their 2017 salary cap, with four teams having more than $20 million and five teams under $1 million.

The Cleveland Browns finished another disappointing season, but hope springs eternal with the first overall draft pick and plenty of money to spend in free agency.

The Browns account for more than one-sixth of the total “carryover” money on the salary cap from 2016 to 2017.

NFL teams can elect to carry over unused 2016 cap dollars onto their 2017 salary cap and no one has more than the Browns at $50.1 million. Outside free agents can officially be signed starting March 9.

The NFL Players Association listed the amounts for each team on Wednesday. The average carryover amount for each team is $9.2 million with the total carryover approaching $300 million for the entire league.
