Tom Brady, NFC East players top NFL sales list

Tom Brady is back on top of the NFL sales list with several players in the NFC East in the top 10.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady regained the top spot on the NFL Players Association Top 50 Players Sales List in the first data that involves sales in the 2016 season. The time period for those sales spanned March 1 through Nov. 30.

Brady was the top-ranked player in sales at the end of 2015, but lost that spot early in 2016 to Dez Bryant, who is now in third place. Dallas Cowboys teammate Ezekiel Elliott, who led the NFL in rushing yards in 2016, quickly moved into second place on the list, in between Brady and Bryant.

Six quarterbacks were in the top 10. In addition to Brady, Philadelphia rookie Carson Wentz was fifth, Seattle’s Russell Wilson was sixth, Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers was seventh, Dallas rookie Dak Prescott was eighth and Carolina’s Cam Newton was 10th.

In addition to Elliott and Bryant, the other non-quarterbacks in the top 10 were New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. and Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski.

The Cowboys placed three players in the top 10 and five in the top 15, including TE Jason Witten at 13 and QB Tony Romo at 14.

The Seahawks placed five players in the Top 50 Player Sales List for the third straight quarter. Next most among all teams were the Minnesota Vikings, with four players in the top 50. Four teams (Patriots, Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders) had three players featured, while six other teams were represented with two players each.

The third quarter saw three players enter the top 50 for the first time: Prescott, Vikings safety Harrison Smith (No. 41) and his teammate, WR Stefon Diggs (No. 43). Diggs also made the jump from the 2016 NFLPA Rising 50 list, where he placed 33rd.

The Top 50 Player Sales List is released quarterly by the NFLPA, via its licensing and marketing arm NFL Players Inc., and is based on overall sales of all NFL player licensed products via online and traditional retail outlets as reported by more than 80 NFLPA licensees.

The top players in jersey sales were Brady, Beckham Jr. Wilson, Newton and Gronkowski. Wentz became the new No. 1 seller for player-identified caps from New Era and Lids. Wentz also led sales of kids jerseys, fleece, and t-shirts from Outerstuff.
