Scouting the MAC: Akron

The Zips seem to be stuck in the quagmire, a team that cannot breakout from the .500 mark even though they pull an occasional upset. Not too much from a pro-prospect point of view when scouting the Zips these days.

Tight end Mike Brake has displayed flashes as both a pass catcher and blocker. Brake is sized well and now steps into the starting line-up. A big senior season would move him up draft boards. Blind side protector Bryan Shaw is built more like a guard and may fit in as a practice squad player. Junior quarterback Charlie Fry offers nice pocket passer size and an arm but must significantly improve his overall fundamentals.

Defensively, junior Dwayne LeFall displayed great pass rush skills in 2001 but his play has fallen off. Chase Blackburn is an active linebacker that makes a lot of plays. He's built for the weak side but may be better suited for the middle.
