New England Tuesday Tidbits

Tuesday news and notes on the New England Patriots.

--LB Rosevelt Colvin has a left hip injury and there is speculation in published reports indicating it could be dislocated, although the team will not confirm any diagnosis. Colvin will almost certainly miss this week's game against the Jets.
--T Tom Ashworth filled in at guard briefly in the Eagles game when Joe Andruzzi got nicked up and left for a series. Ashworth is on the roster as a backup at both tackle spots, but is seldom used at guard. With Woody back in the lineup this week, it is more likely that Woody would move out to guard and rookie Dan Koppen would play center in the event of an injury to either Andruzzi or Mike Compton.
--LB Willie McGinest will start in place of Rosevelt Colvin if the Patriots remain in a 3-4 with both Johnson and Colvin out of action. The Patriots suddenly lack depth at linebacker after losing two starters in two weeks. The Patriots could switch to a 4-3.
--LB Matt Chatham would see more action at outside linebacker this week. McGinest played as many snaps last week as he has played in some time and has been used in a rotation for the last couple of seasons. He likely won't be able to go a whole game without being spelled, which means Chatham will get some snaps on the edge.
--TE Daniel Graham should start to get more opportunities in the offense in the coming weeks. He has just two receptions for 4 yards in the first two games. But the coaches feel he can now be a bigger part of the offense and want Brady to start developing more confidence in the 2002 first round pick.
--QB Tom Brady appears to be fine after injuring his throwing elbow against the Eagles. He should start against the Jets.
--C Damien Woody was a game-time scratch last week with a chest injury, but will almost certainly play against New York.
--S Je'Rod Cherry tightened up late last week and missed the Eagles game. His status remains day-to-day, but he will likely be questionable for the game. The Patriots have some depth on special teams with Chris Akins and Aric Morris capable of filling in for Cherry.
--S Aric Morris has an undisclosed foot injury that was swollen after the game. There is no update on his condition.
--WR David Given strained leg muscle is improving. After missing the first two games, Givens could press for a roster spot this week if he can stay on the practice field.
--CB Eugene Wilson had his bell rung in the first quarter of the Eagles game and missed the rest of the half before returning in the second half. He should be able to play against the Jets.
