Scouting the MAC: Western Michigan

After a breakthrough campaign but a heartbreaking loss to Marshall in the conference championship just seasons ago, its' been tough sledding for the Bronco's. The roster has one potentially explosive defensive prospect and a few good pass catchers that project to the next level.

A few seasons back we were very high on the pair of Antonio Thomas and Kendrick Mosley, two nice sized wide outs that were effective possession receivers. Neither have taken their game to the next level. For his part Thomas is big and tough to defend. He's a classic third down pass catcher or red zone target that must run well to make it as a team's fourth receiver. Mosely displayed some speed but was second on the depth chart as a junior.

Defensively, Jason Babin displayed he is a player that creates a lot of havoc from his defensive end position. A quick and athletic pass rusher, he makes plays from every angle and displays a good head for the ball. Babin has great tenacity as well as intelligence. He is undersized to the point where he has difficulty defending the run and will be handled at the point by opposing tight ends. We would liken him to DeWayne White, formerly of Louisville and now with Tampa Bay and feel that like White, Babin fits into the top 62 picks.
